I was accepted to both Michigan State and Grand Valley and now I'm really struggling to chose between them. I always liked GV and thought I would go there but I recently went to state and really liked it. It had that classic collegiate feel of a bigger university that I always pictured myself in, yet I still have a lot of doubts about it. I still like GV but after seeing MSU I am beginning to worry it may be lacking in student life.

My main concerns are:
-class size and availability of professors (I worry that MSU might have too big of classes)
-surrounding city
-student life and school spirit
-dorms (I've heard MSU dorms can be kind of gross)
-credibility of degree

Any input about either school is much appreciated!

MSU will far be the better choice. im probably going there. Grand Valley wont have much influence outside of michigan. MSU’s size isnt really daunting as it seems. MSU social life is amazing. also MSU is just gorgeous. Some dorms are OK, such as Hubbard but some like Case are yuck and small.

They are both good schools. Like I always say, Michigan State is huge and if you want a big environment with a decent name go there. However, if you want smaller class sizes and more of a focus on undergraduate education then I would recommend GVSU. MSU has a little bit better social environment, but GVSU is next to a better city (Grand Rapids is a lot better than Lansing.) Grand Valley has some influence outside of Michigan, but not as much as MSU due to being in the Big Ten. However, you can always go to graduate school at a “big name” school.
