Michigan vs. Colgate

I've recently been accepted to University of Michigan and Colgate University. I really like a lot about both of these schools despite the fact that they are very different, and in some ways it's like comparing apples and oranges. However, there are pros and cons to each of these schools, and I'm having trouble deciding but that may 1st deadline is rapidly approaching. I am undecided in terms of a major but I really enjoy a wide range of interests in studies and extracurriculars as well. I am the type of person that gets along with everyone and so I think I'll be happy wherever I go and I have done plenty of research on both of these schools, but I was wondering if anyone had any particular advice they could offer to help me come to a decision. Thanks!

I think that in a setting like UMich’s you need to be assertive to create your out of class opportunities. At a school the size of Colgate, those opportunities will come looking for you, and you may have opportunities in multiple areas instead of having to choose a niche. How much do you think you’d benefit from the built-in support and connections that would come from a much smaller community?

I think that I’d benefit from the accessibility of the opportunities at colgate and the family feel of the school, but at the same time I’m afraid I’d begin to feel trapped, whereas Mich has everything and much more diversity of not only people but also such a wide variety of programs. I am someone who, however, is able to assert myself and would probably be just fine seeking out opportunities myself, but I would enjoy the support of advisers etc
