Hello, I am looking for mid-sized colleges that also have a lot of school spirit, good academics, and a women’s lacrosse team. I plan on trying to walk on to a lacrosse team in college). I have a 3.68 (unweighted) and a 35 ACT. I also have a lot of extracurriculars and started a community service program that works with underprivileged preschools.
It’s kind of funny, some of the schools I would think of in the mid-sized range (something like 5k-10k) don’t strike me as having the strongest school spirit. Not to say students are not happy at them, just that I’m not sure students attend games in large numbers and are not all that rah-rah about sports teams.
Anyway, some I would think about: Tufts, William and Mary, and Rochester. All are very competitive; your ACT is obviously strong enough, GPA very good but probably lower than the average, though hard to say how it will all look when your whole application is put together (strength of classes, recs, essays, etc.) Same with Boston College and maybe Wake Forest and the University of Richmond. If you are definitely interested in STEM, then maybe WPI. We thought the campus vibe great, mid-size school, nice campus, relative gender balance, which is often not the case at a STEM school.
I love Creighton. Just a short walk to downtown Omaha, which has a big nightlife area and is pretty dynamic. It seems like a big sports school–basketball team was very good last year and they play the College World Series there.
More southern, Belmont in Nashville and Tulsa come to mind. The University of Denver might be a great choice out west.
Good luck!
Wake Forest, Colgate, Lehigh, Georgetown
Correction: Wake Forest is just club. My apologies.
BC has Division 1 women’s lacrosse, school spirit, good academics, and is mid-size (9k undergrad). It is Jesuit and accordingly service-oriented, if that might be attractive to you.
Colgate.
Look at the University of Richmond. In addition to what you’re looking for, Richmond has a beautiful campus, great night life in the city, and fun social scene.
The Richmond Spiders also compete in the A10 for D1 women’s lacrosse and won the A10 tournament last year and went to the NCAA tournament!
