Mid year grades?

You have to send in your final year grades if you choose to matriculate.

Based on Michigan’s old point system, students received points for the quality of the school they attended to which could lead the average GPA of accepted students from certain schools to be lower than the published average. I’m sure they do something similar like that nowadays, though I highly doubt they quantify it like they used to do.

To LolyGaGA who said 4 C are not rescinding grades…Excuse me but anything ABOVE 3 Cs or one D most definitely will trigger the rescind letter that requests an explanation. Whether or not they would let that student matriculation would be an individual decision. UMICH’S comment is not at all harsh – it’s the truth, and it’s what they tell you at sessions.

And I do not suspect 4Bs and 2 As will help your case as far as getting off the deferral list, unless you were somehow showing an upward trend from what you’ve submitted already.

PS Motion, you are correct, and they publish that fact in the download at admissions that shows you what their admit rating forms are like. So for school rep/rigor each case gets a rating. Which is why some kids from some schools get in with lower stats while others don’t get in with straight As.

That said, more than 3 Cs at ANY school does not carry.

PPSS -Strife, as I recall, you went to a “top 50” school, which is why you’ll see 3.5s at your school. Same is true of my son.

^^ yes, i have 4 Bs and 2 As, but its not like they were in EASY classes…

regardless, i probably won’t send them, but i still don’t appreciate your harsh comments. besides, you’re a parent, not an actual student…which just doesn’t seem right.

Who cares if they weren’t easy classes? If you really want UMichigan to accept you, and think that you should be accepted, then you should be able to thrive in ‘challenging’ classes.

well seeing i got the “good” deferral letter with a few Cs, I doubt sending in my first semester grades with no Cs would hurt my decision…

^
Probably not, but only send the grades if you think it will enhance your chances of being accepted.

yea that’s what i thinking coolbreeze, so i prob wont send them

Loly nothing harsh intended in my post except to correct the erroneous impression others might have gotten from your comment that the other poster was being harsh to say 4Cs would not trigger a rescind. I feel it is in the interest for all readers of these threads to be as informed as possible so they know what to expect in the process, and for those in possession of accurate facts to clarify where they are able.

Further, you asked whether to send yours in. I and several others have said not unless it shows an upward trend or confirms a holding trend. We’re just trying to answer your question and give you the advice you seek.
