So I basically just found out that we are supposed to have our guidance councilors send the mid year report as they don’t get a reminder of any sort. I didn’t find this out until recently since it says nowhere about that. But anyways, I sent my application and everything else to American University and i’ve checked several times on the student portal, and it has consistently said that my application is complete and under review for admission. However, it says on their website that you have to send the mid year report. This makes no sense as they never sent me any kind of email saying they are missing anything and like I said on the student portal it says my application is complete. With that being said, decisions are released February 15th. If I have the mid year report sent on Monday, will they have enough time to review it? Will they reject me for sending my mid year report late? I’m really confused and stressing out about this now…
Are you sure your counselor didn’t send it in? The Mid Year Report is one of the documents that the admissions officers expect from counselors, not the student. Most schools require them and your counselor should know that and might have automatically sent it to the schools you sent your transcript too. If your portal says everything is in then don’t worry about it. Just send an email to double check. They won’t penalize you for it. If anything it’s their fault for not having your portal status correct. I had a teacher who sent in my recommendation quite late to colleges and they didn’t blame me because it wasn’t under my control.
On common app it says the school report was sent, which my guidance counselor has the option to send as soon as I assign him as the recommender. But it says on the common app website that the guidance counselor won’t get a reminder or anything, and that it’s the student’s responsibility to make sure the guidance counselor sends it. On my common app it says the school report was sent but doesn’t say anything about the mid-year report being sent. I could be wrong though so I’ll follow up with my guidance counselor Monday. It’s weird because Syracuse also says a mid year report is required, but in my student portal it says everything has been received and I even got an email from a admissions officer when I asked about something else that said I do not need to send any additional information and that my application is complete. So maybe I’m wrong and my guidance counselor did send it, but it doesn’t say he did on common app.
My kids’ HS is just finalizing grades for 1st semester this coming week, so I think there will be a number of students whose mid year reports haven’t been sent yet because they weren’t ready.
