The letter I got from Umich reads as follows:

"Thank you for applying to the University of Michigan. After an initial individualized and comprehensive review of your application, we find that we will need additional information in order to make a decision.

The quality of grades earned in academic courses is one of several factors taken into consideration in evaluating a student's admissibility. To give your application a fair evaluation, we will need your fall semester grades. It is your responsibility to ask your high school counselor to send a report of your fall semester grades as soon as the information is available. It is important that we receive these grades before March 1. We will notify you of a final decision on your application by mid-April.

We appreciate your interest in the University of Michigan and look forward to receiving your fall semester grades. Please do not hesitate to contact me, or to have your high school counselor call me, if you have any questions or concerns regarding your application."

My counselor and I did indeed call to see what's up. They said that I was not really deferred as I first assumed, and that they were waiting to make a real decision on my app. until I sent new grades. At that time they would make a decision, whether it be deferral, acceptance, rejection, etc...

I was NOT a good student sophomore year and part of junior year. Obviously this is bad for u of m seeing as that's all they really care about. Lucky enough for me, I scored a 34 on the ACT, hold a bunch of good leadership positions at school (drum major, etc...), can hold my own in an essay, and have an AP teacher (and u of m grad) who loved me enough to write me prolly the best rec I could ask for. I started to see the academic light last year and there was a significant rise in my grades. The grades I'm sending from this year are looking like they're going to be straight A's... MAYBEEEEE a B+ in AP english, but even that is looking more and more like an A.

So, the point of this thread is: what do you think my chances are of gaining admittance?
