I received a very low grade in my calculus class this semester. My teacher had informed me that as he wont increase my grade, there is a way to get rid of it completely from my transcript. Is it a good idea to get rid of my math grade even though I listed that I am taking BC calc for the year? I think I'd like to drop it as well.

What's a very low grade? An A-? A C+?

ugh i might be getting a C+ this quarter in calc bc.

ARGH!

a 70 out of a 100

yea this is the official emo tear post for columbia!

I know how you guys feel. I was doing really well first quarter in AP Statistics (B+) and I did even better second quarter (A- or possibly A), I don't know what grade I am going to get. But, like my whole class, I bombed the midterm (C-), the average was actually like a C+. I am kind of ****ed off because I thought I had a chance at an A- for the semester and know I might end up with a B. It sucks, anyone else feel my pain?

I feel your pain...midterm dropped me from a B+/B to a C+...

EMO TEARS!

How much are your midterms worth!?

I take 7 classes, 3 are APs (B, B, B+). Is that awful?

this sucks..anyone have advice for me??

Of my semsester grades, midterms are 20%. I think that is kind of ridiculous that one test determines a fifth of my semsester grade.

Dude, get used to it. I had a couple classes where 100% of your grade is based on the final exam. Pretty standard is a course where the midterm is worth 40% or so and the final is worth 60% or so. In college, there isn't extra credit, participation points, etc.

Yeah, I think there's all we can do is get used to it. I totally know how you're feeling though. I had a 4.0 freshman thru junior year. This year I got a B in Calculus BC. I really thought I was going to pull it up to an A- but I got a B on the final (worth 70% of my grade), so my grade didn't improve. I was pretty upset but you know, thinking it over, grades don't define who we are. I still feel like a smart student, just like I felt before, and I know I'm more than just grades. I've got a personality too that shows in my essays and recs. I really think that kind of mentality will help get us in. So I'd say not to drop the class. Show them that you're not going to give up. They already know that you took a semester of Calc; if you drop they'll assume you're lazy b/c you aren't failing the class. (And it is a hard class--there's lots of CC'ers who post about their B's in calc). Besides, you still have your essays and recs and ECs--let them help define you as a good match for Columbia.

still clueless but thanks.

I'm glad to hear this happens to other studnets. DS has had an excellent avergae throughout HS. He just had 1st semester finals, bombed the AP English exam, his grades are B AP Eng, B+ AP Calc, B+ Physics, B AP Microeconomics, A- Facing History and Ourselves which is only a half year course. It is the worst semester he has ever had and he is really upset.

Oh my god!
I thought I was the only one with a bad midyear report.
My cumulative average dropped over TWO points (now a 91) because of this LOUSY semester (85): English 94, Japanese 91... AP Calc AB 85, AP Statistics 85, AP Bio 80, AP Macro 80.

AH!

man i can totally relate. i'm doomed!!!
i got a B+ in multivariable calculus(i'm retarded because i didn't study for this small test and it made me get a B+. Even though i did well on the final :()
Antoher B+ in AP PHysics C. So weird i do really well on midterms then screw up on ONE test. (That one test dropped my average fomr like 98 to 95.)
ANother B+ in english. Again i'm retarded. If i studied for that ONE vocab test i would have an A. Man i don't know why i'm so retarded.
so final GPA 5 As and 3B+s. 3.81. (damn that 94-100 A scale. My 90-93s r all B+s. ONly i wish for a 90-100 scale)
How does it look?

P.S. it's nice to know that i'm not alone.

Welllll I'm getting a B in BC Calculus (first B on transcript, whatev...).

I would care, if everyone in that class wasn't an absolutely JERK... I spent most of my energy on trying not to kill myself while sitting through that course... Arrogant bastards...

hey, B+ in ap physics C is incredible, and BC calc is so hard, at first i wanted an A and now ill be happy if i can keep a B the rest of the year. my midyear report had a fabulous little B- on it for the dumbest class ive ever taken (we dont LEARN anything so our grades our pretty arbitrary), cuz of like 2 late assignments that i didnt know were late cuz i missed school for funerals and stuff and my teacher never bothered to tell me about them (although she talked to my mentor behind my back about me being a bad student). wow i better cut this rant off NOW.

"Facing History and Ourselves" What the flying f*** is this?? Bureaucratic nonsense gone awry.
