How much of a factor do you think the mid-year report will play in college admissions this year, considering the fact that grades may be misleading due to cheating in online exams??
That’s a good question. The frank answer is it depends on the institution. It’s true that colleges across the board are weighing the grades of online classes significantly less, which is leading to a much higher rate of mid year report requests. However, some colleges request mid year reports from all applicants but only actually utilize them for borderline applications. Each institution decides how much of their resources they want to devote to mid year report review, some devote a lot, other’s rarely even check.
That seems reasonable. Thanks!
We are hybrid very few online exams, so online cheating is non existent for in person students. Grading has been more rigorous. There has also been no extra help or study sessions for AP. Our school has not had grade inflation.
It is an interesting question and I’ve also wondered myself how they will handle it this year and in the future. How will they know for the upcoming classes with all of the discrepancies around the country?
Quite frankly, it’s difficult. Admission departments only have finite resources and thus, can only do so much. However, many schools have started employing methods such as comparing online grades of all students from the same school to get a rough sense if grade deflation has occurred. Others have even gone so far as to call up the high schools and investigate the grading rubric. All in all, if a student has worked hard for their A’s the college wants to know that and will give credit where they reasonably can
