Mid-Year Report for College Applications! help please

I am currently in the middle of the college application process and since the semester is ending soon, my mid-year report will be sent to the schools I am applying to.

Throughout all of high school, I have had an unweighted 4.0 GPA, meaning that I have never gotten even an A-. However, by the end of this semester, I expect to have one, possibly 2, A-s. I don’t want this to come across as obnoxious, it’s just unfortunate that I am breaking my “streak” at the last second.

Anyway, my question is: Will this hurt my chances, especially at T20 schools? How much is the mid-year report weighted in the college admissions process?

Thanks for all the help.

I don’t think two A- grades will hurt you at all. That just means your GPA will go down slightly to an unweighted 3.9, and that’s still on target for top schools provided everything else they are looking for is there.

Mid-year report is looked at but it’s not like you seriously messed up or anything.

Thank you for responding! Do you know if the midyear report says the GPA for just this semester, or all of high school?

Just for the semester/trimester/whatever system your high school uses.

It has whatever the school determines. At my D’s school, cumulative GPA is all that’s ever shown on any quarterly report, transcript, etc.

Hi! The very top schools want to see the current grades in ALL courses.

Any school that requests a mid-year report will want to see current grades for ALL courses. Why would a mid-year report not include all courses?

Because schooler123 would also need to notify the guidance counselor of any outside college/community college/online high school courses taken outside the brick and mortar high school. Schooler123 is applying EA/ED to a highly competitive college/university, so it’s likely that could have been done in order to be more competitive. Provided any of those outside courses were completed by this time, the competitive EA/ED school needs to be notified of that too.
