I am deciding between Middlebury and Georgetown. I plan on majoring in political science/government or political economy. I plan on going to law school and getting into politics later in life.

Which school would prepare me best for law school? give better advising? place me in a better law school?

To be fair here, I LOVE Midd. Also, I know NOTHING about the poli-sci/econ/govt. part of Midd’s programs. My daughter’s interests are in other areas…

That said (and you’ve probably considered this)…If I were in your situation, I would at least think through the geographical differences–very metropolitan v. quite rural. Are there any distinct advantages in the undergrad. portion of your education if you are closer to Wash. DC? Would your professors, friends, etc. have “connections” to lawfirms or internships in that area that may be beneficial? I’m not implying that the Midd. profs aren’t connected…I’m only asking the question in terms of GEOGRAPHICAL advantages, which may not matter at all in your undergrad education.

Just the question that I would ask…

Good luck in finding the best fit for you. :)

This is merely anecdotal… When son went to visit Midd he sat in on a class and was really surprised to see one of the only kids he knew who had gone to Midd… he is now a senior and choosing between UChicago and Columbia for law school. Not too shabby. Georgetown is great, but… again, it’s apples and oranges to an undergrad experience to Midd.

Not sure if this is helpful or not, but one of my best friends from Midd went on to attend G’Town Law School. He graduated top ten in his law school class and told me that in the law school class ahead of him the person who was first in the class was a Midd grad. It’s especially interesting to me since this friend was NOT near the top of his class at Midd. To be fair, one of my good friends from high school attended G’Town SFS and went on to get his PhD from the Fletcher School (Tufts’ Graduate school of law and diplomacy - curious naming, because it’s not a law school).

The internship possibilities in DC are incredible. In addition to really enriching an undergrad experience, they are terrific resume-boosters for law school.
