Middle 50% with test scores & GPA

Hello everyone!

I am applying to a school (obviously). Said school has a middle 50% ACT range from 23-28 (might be 24-28 now, I think it changed this year). The average ACT score is 26. I scored a 25 but didn’t send in this score- I’m banking on my new score to be significantly better (I actually studied this time. I know it sounds stupid that I didn’t study for the first one but I had no intention of turning it in and I was essentially using it as a practice for my SAT and to see where I was at. I also didn’t have much guidance of what to study until afterwards, when I took up the internet for advice.) I really needed to get my math score up because of the fact that my major preference is Mechanical Engineering (I’ll explain admissions below)

The middle 50% for their GPA is 3.4-3.9, with the average of 3.62. I have a 3.886 GPA UW (I didn’t take any AP classes until this year and my school doesn’t weigh honors classes).

Their middle 50% for the SAT (“old SAT format”) is 1040-1210. I don’t really understand these scores. Isn’t the old SAT out of 2400? Anyway, I got a 1250 on the New SAT, so I’m not sure how that translates. I did send in this score, and I will be retaking the SAT in October, which will also be sent in.

How high will my most recent ACT and the SAT I’m taking in October have to be to basically be a “shoe in”? My extracurriculars are fine, and I’ve heard that this school doesn’t consider EC’s as much. My personal essay, I’ve been told, is really good.

So, my interpretation of their admissions is that you are admitted into the general university with a major preference. After 1 or 2 years, when you get enough credits and have a GPA of 3.0 or above, you are admitted into the College of Engineering.

If you want to be a “shoe in”, then you want to take a look at their selectivity/acceptance rate which should be above 80% and have stats that are above the 75th percentile.

Their acceptance rate is 66.1% (mostly female).

This really depends on the selectivity of the school. If the school has a high acceptance rate, say greater than 60% of those who apply get admitted, then you are probably fine. It’s when you get into the more selective schools that it is more important to near the top to improve your chances. Based on the score levels you indicated, I’m guessing this is not a very selective school and you should be fine.
