Middle Earth vs. Mesa Court

Most Mesa people I talked to seem to love Mesa while a lot of ME freshman(When I was a freshman in Middle Earth) wished they were living in Mesa…I guess a lot changes in a year?

Anyways you can get to the ARC in 10-15 from Mesa too. Flagpoles -> AV bus stops in front of ARC and Mesa is probably about the same distance to the flagpoles since you can cross peltason into the student center. Its a few mins farther from most everything else though when compared from ME.

Really? Everyone I’ve met in ME loves ME, and know people in Mesa that wish they were in ME. Personally, I like how ME has so much more of a community feel. Chef Ryan at Pippin is more than enough reason to pick ME imo haha.

As for the ARC, I’m in the phase III buildings and it takes me about 10 minutes walking to get to the ARC.

Recent RUMORS have it that Mesa Commons will surpass Pippin by next year in popularity, as Mesa Commons have a new head chef.

Food was definitely more fresh and tastier when I visited Mesa twice last week.

^ I always though MESA food tasted better, but probably b/c I have been eating in Middle Earth for so much~!

Well the food in Middle Earth’s Pippin is in really good hands because the head chef is really acclaimed and experienced. He was the senior executive chef for the Athletes’ Village during the Beijing Olympics and got to cook for several award ceremonies such as the Oscars and the Grammys. No wonder we have such a large variety of food at Pippin lol.

Has anyone stayed in a triple before? Any pictures or experiences they would like to share?

I know some people who have triples and it’s really crowded

When do we apply for housing? I definitely want Mesa because my girl friend chose that lol

Lol I answered that in your previous forum post, but housing apps are online and don’t come out until around June. And then you don’t really find out where your living or who your rooming with until the final weeks approaching move-in day (Late August-Early September). It’s really inconvenient when most schools find out around July-ish.

And I went to UCI with my boyfriend and we opted to go different communities (I’m chose Mesa). From my experience, the only inconvenience is distance. I like being in separate communities because I can get the best of both worlds :stuck_out_tongue: I don’t think that where your girlfriend chooses to live should be your deciding factor. It’s all up to you and what appeals to you more.

middle earth socially dead? please tell me I’m wrong

Middle Earth is NOT socially dead, and this is coming from a Mesa Resident. It really depends on the people that live in a certain community. Honestly, you’re not going to be living with 50 other people who spend their nights studying, you’re going to get a wide variety.

So if I’m more of the partying type, would it be to my benefit to choose Mesa Court then?
Also does anyone know if people within the same residence hall but different themes interact often, or are they more segregated?

Housing applications are out already and are due at the same time as your SIR and SLR (May 1)

Sorry, but just wondering, is the ARC available to all UCI students?

yes, Syd. the arc is included within UCI Fee. So take advantage with that. ^^

I’m not sure if this question has been asked already, and I’m sorry if it has, but I was wondering if there was a big difference between the amenities and extra stuff middle earth and mesa court have? I know the difference between their dining commons already, but I was wondering along the lines of lounge areas, and i know one of them has a big lounge area with T.V’s and videogames and such.

Thanks for the help in advanced!

ok well…ME just officially opened up a convenience store at their commons. They have two huge quiet study rooms, though one of them sometimes gets crowded. They also have a small gym. Big lounge just to have fun is bout just the same, except Mesa has DVD rentals and board game rentals. Mesa has two study lounges, both of them has computers to use. One of the study place has small rooms for group study so you have to reserve them at a time. Besides that everything is about the same, i think.

@ Lovelyda
The halls within residence halls usually stick with their hallmates, since its easier to communicate. Its less often you see people visiting other halls unless its someone they know from high school or a person you clique really well from just a small converstaion you had with them at a lecture.
All I can say everyone gets super friendly in the first two weeks of fall, after that you figure it out.

Since I’m living in a triple, I want a phase 3 or 4 dorm. Do themes really influence the halls? Some of the halls I want don’t really fit me theme wise, so I’m wondering if the themes really matter when picking a dorm?

themes will influence the type of activities your housing staff will provide for the hall
