Middle-Eastern Studies? Or International Relations?

Hello,

I'm currently a junior in high school. I was wondering how good FSU's Middle-Eastern Studies program is compared to UF or UCF's? I hear the International Relations program is pretty good and I'm not sure whether I want to major in that or Middle-Eastern Studies. Suggestions? I live in state and I'm pretty sure I can get into FSU without a problem, too...

I guess the big question would be how interested are you in basically spending a couple years learning one of the Middle Eastern languages?

The MES program has a requirement of at least 15 credit hours of one of the Middle Eastern languages (Hebrew, Turkish, Arabic, etc). If you’re up for learning one of them, then you’d probably enjoy the MES program. If not, I’d probably go towards the International Affairs side.

For International Affairs, you basically can pick your own major courses (albeit, they have to be from [this list of courses](http://www.coss.fsu.edu/inaprog/content/undergraduate-course-list)), with only a couple classes actually being required.

You can still generally pick a lot of your courses in Middle Eastern Studies, but they’re from a much shorter list.

Since a lot of classes are acceptable for both programs, I think that really it’s dependent upon whether you want to study a Middle Eastern language for 4-5 semesters minimum.
