Middle Eastern Studies Programs?

Hi!

I want to get my Masters in Middle Eastern Studies and I'm having a hard time figuring out where I'll likely be accepted, what the best program for me would be, etc. I have a year and a half left doing my undergrad; I'm currently at an Ivy.

Stats:
When I apply, I'll have (most likely) a 3.6 cum with 4.0 in my major. I've spent significant amounts of time in the Middle East and done three internships that focus on regional conflicts in the area. I haven't taken a GRE diagnostic (or test!) yet, but I'm usually very good at standardized testing.

I want a program that is focused on the modern Middle East. My top three choices are Harvard, Yale and Columbia. Any info on what these schools are looking for (stats, etc) would be greatly appreciated!!

I'm also in Middle Eastern studies, finishing up my undergrad. Georgetown has a superb program, with great emphasis on contemporary studies. Harvard and Columbia are also excellent, but I would go with Georgetown over Yale.

Since you're at an Ivy, why not try to stay there; most have good MES grad school depts? Also, why a Masters? (as a gateway to a PhD program or as an end in itself?)

The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts has a great Middle Eastern program; your Masters would be a MALD (masters in law & diplomacy). Look specifically for Fletcher's Fares Center for Middle Eastern Studies. Fletcher profs are seen to be better than the Kennedy profs, acc to my friends who take classes at both.

In addition to the schools mentioned, you may want to check out the University of Texas. See link below.

UT Austin, Georgetown, and even the Monterey Institute seem to be the names that come up most often in my experience. Most of the Arabic materials that are readily available seem to come from these places.

I know someone from the Defense Language Institute who is currently studying for a Middle Eastern masters from UT Austin. They seem to enjoy the program.
