Middle School Awards

Is it a good idea to show national/ regional awards from junior high?

You might as well...I can't guarantee that it will help you but if it really is a national or otherwise prestigious award it certainly wouldn't hurt!

Middle school awards have no bearing on the application process and will merely "muck up" your application. It will look like you are really stretching to include awards.

I agree with umdad. Middle School awards do not belong on a college application any more than HS awards belong on an application for graduate school.

depends on the award i think. for example, if you made usamo in the 7th or 8th grade, you should put it in.

The common app explicitly states that you can only list awards from ninth grade on.

Only include the award if it was something that would be an honor for a high school or college student to receive, and you received it in middle school.

If you were only competing against other middle school-aged students for the award, don’t include it – as others have said, it might actually hurt your application (and at best would have no impact).

What about showing a long term interest pursued at a place like CTY? Summers 7/8, 8/9, 9/10, 10/11?

The common app specifically states that you shouldn't include awards before ninth grade. It provides no place to list activities before ninth grade. If you wish to include that you've done CTY since before eighth grade, you should make a note in the section of the application for additional comments/information.
