I am currently a 10th grader attending a charter school. I have always been a good student, I get A-B grades, and I never have got in trouble. With the sole exception of my 8th grade year when a kid was constantly harassing me one day. I punched the kid in the gut and we both got sent to the vice principals office, and our punishment was a detention after school for 3 days. I have since then never got in trouble, and have had good grades. I want to go to college, but I am still unsure of if this will effect me. Will this effect my going to college? Will colleges see this?
Colleges don’t look at middle school. I believe they can see your transcript, but if they have seen that bad behavior isn’t a problem, they won’t care. For example, someone could barely scrape by middle school with Cs and Ds, but if they somehow picked everything up, became an A/B student with excellent ECs and more, they really won’t care what happened in middle school. You have nothing to worry about.
The common app asks for suspensions and serious academic probation they don’t ask about detentions and if you fall into those categories they give you a chance to explain further what the situation was. Trust me I got my fair share of detentions in high school and was assured many times by GC detention is not reported anywhere

Ok, thank you so much. I feel a lot better now.
