It might be worth considering Middlebury’s overall yield from last year, which appears to have been 30.3%, a figure that includes students who committed to attend through ED applications (but who may have been released from their commitments).
Thanks that’s fair enough.
Just got a sweet personal note in the mail from my Midd admissions officer that made my day! I love when they do that!
Tentatively Biochemistry with a minor in French @merc81
I can see your challenge. You have gotten into several great colleges for those interests.
If French is a priority and you’re happy with a rural campus, I would go to Middlebury. Northeastern is so different from your other options that I would focus on it first. If you are drawn to the co-op education at NEU, I would go for it. You can’t have that experience at the other schools. (I am generally a SLAC fan, but have to think that since you’re still considering NEU, the co-op and urban location must be speaking to you.)
Middlebury offers impressive programs in languages, but it doesn’t represent the only great choice among LACs for this interest:
Based on IPEDS data, Hamilton graduates more French majors than perhaps any other LAC, and over twice the number of Middlebury.
Yeah, I am not as attached to Northeastern as the rest and they didn’t offer as much financial aid as the LACs. As of now, my gut says Hamilton but I don’t really have any specific reason to qualify that feeling. I have not toured any campuses yet.
Take note of that gut feeling - it is almost always right!
Adieu, Northeastern
If you would like a distinguishing aspect for Hamilton, consider that its history of having been two colleges of different characteristics and attributes contributes to it current academic, architectural and spatial range. If you like film, you will want to watch The Sterile Cuckoo for a visual perspective of Hamilton’s area: THE STERILE CUCKOO (1969) Trailer - YouTube.
Got into Midd and just committed today!
Welcome to the family @mangolover1 !
So I am on the waitlist and decided to def commit if I am eventually admitted. Any advice?
Say that on your LOCI! Midd will love to hear that!
You should literally state something like “Midd continues to be my first choice” and how you’d be thrilled/ definitely attend if given the chance.
Along with telling Midd that you would absolutely attend if admitted, if you are happy to be a Feb, let them know.
yes I will have have contacted my alum interviewer, he said he is happy to follow up and I have also contacted my counsellor to call them. Also, I am def honest about it being my 1st choice if admitted!!!
@AliciaSmith (And anyone else on the Waitlist)…
I was asked for my advice on what to do if Midd genuinely is your first choice, and you’d drop whatever other plans you have to go if Midd called after May 1st. If I were writing a LOCI, I would want to cover:
- What do you want to major in?
- Which faculty members have you reached out to? What is it about them that makes you want to study with them?
- What is it - other than huge enthusiasm for all things Midd (I’m assuming you’ve all googled Middkid Rap from a decade ago by now…) that you’ll bring to the Midd community?
- Why should we choose you? This is a numbers game, so…
- Where will you be five years after graduation?
- Why will we remember you?
- Why will Midd be proud of you?
Hope this helps,
CP
