Did anyone write about Middlebury in your community essay in a "why Middlebury" kind of way? I'm working on the essay now, and I'm telling it in present tense from a moment I observed when I was young. But, I don't know exactly how to fit Middlebury in there, and I was wondering if mentioning the college is really necessary, or if it can be easily inferred from my essay the type of community I would like, then would that be fine? Thanks.

i'm writing mine as a creative, personal statement type. I'm not really writing about "why middlebury", but just a line at the end about middlebury

I just finished it, I'm sure I'll have much changes to do tomorrow.

I'm an international, so I tried to describe life in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. After that I went to what I've learned from growing up in my country and finally to what I expect from college. I, too, mentioned Middlebury once in this last part.
I basically followed the order of questions in the prompt, I think though, that my essay is original. Then again, who doesn't?

What would you say about sending our essays to each other, to see how well we're doing?

fantastic, I wrote about life in northwestern china where the middle eastern and chinese cultures are mixed...but it read more like a story and I don't know how much it says about me and what I want from the community. I would love to send it to you once I polish it a little more.

also, I wrote it from the perspective of me as a child...in present tense. so I don't know how I can stick middlebury in there! -sigh-

I wrote about how I went went to a montessori school until seventh grade and then made the switch to a conservative private school, and how I grew up influenced my change and my out look on life. I basically ended with how I want my college to be like my elementary school.

It was probably the favorite of all my essays I've written.

Does the Essay have a word limit, because i cant find any information.

I think one page should do it.

my essay is a few sentences longer than a page.

ladyheidi, I'd love to exchange essays with you once you're done. Pleas PM me when you're finished.

Would anyone else care to exchange essays? I've never read any other applicant's essay and I'd like to know where I stand.
I promise it's safe, unless you're from Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and the president of your country barely made it through high school and is a college dropout ;)

count me in!

I've PMed you chernbabychern.

By the way, when's the deadline for this essay?

january 1st

you mean postmarked by Jan 1 ?

yeah, it's postmarked by jan. 1st.

I'm writing mine about how my dad grew up on a farm in kansas, and worked on drilling rigs and in coal mines before going to harvard, than later becoming a teacher,

and about how my mom grew up in dublin

So my cmmunity here in suburban Massachusetts has really had less effect on me than the communities in which my parents grew up, and my current home community that came about as a result.

it's a tough one.

My essay was one page. I wrote about what I love about my community, how I have taken advantage of my community's options for getting involved, and like a line at the end relating what I'll find at Middlebury to what I love about my own community. I didn't like the topic, but I guess my approach was an acceptable one since I got in.

Say how long is ONE page? Times new roman, 12 pt, double spaced?

Mine was about a page and a half double spaced, 12pt Times New Roman. I think it was about 450/500 words or so

Crap you guys...mine was 2 and a half double spaced, closer to 800 words. And it's already out. :(

Don't worry, BigO. So was mine.

They never gave a length guideline, so as long as you kept it reasonable (and 2.5 pages is reasonable) it shouldn't be a problem. If they're competant at their jobs, they shouldn't hold it against you.

mine was more than 900 words! i hope they dont get bored reading it lol

procrastinating studying for midterms. Since everyone has sent their essays in by now, does anyone else want to exchange essays for fun and fret about Middlebury? :D
