I am applying to Middlebury College as a student athlete. I was just wondering how strong the connections are especially if you are on an athletic team (getting a i-bank job on Wall Street, etc) Also, how many people at Middlebury are trying to get investment banking jobs? Harder, easier than Williams, Amherst? Thanks!
My son just graduated from Midd in May with an Econ degree and was a recruited athlete. Got a job in NYC with a financial firm prior to Thanksgiving of his Senior year. Many firms came to Midd to interview which obviously helps. He received interviews for both internships and jobs in NY and per my son, he felt Midd was definitely a target school. He has many friends from Midd all working in NY. Middlebury is well known on the street. He was flown in for superdays that he said seemed to only include the highest tier schools. I cannot tell you who actually has more but I can tell you that the Midd degree had a big part in my son landing where he did. Playing a sport at Midd also was very helpful, as I do know that one of the superdays was for athletes only from target schools. In his group, at his firm the company hired a Midd kidd the last three years.
We could not have been any happier with Midd and all that it provided for my sons future.
Econ is one of the largest majors at Midd and over the last few years they have been hiring more staff due to the increase in interest.
From Midd, Econ is the major of choice to work in Finance or Consulting with Math being the second major of choice.
So, if you are interested in I-banking, major in Econ and take as many Math/analytic type classes as you can.
My younger son just finished up his first semester at Midd and he too was a recruited athlete and he is planning to major in Econ like his brother.
Best of luck
According to LinkedIn, Middlebury places more people in I-banking than every LAC other than Amherst or Wellesley - that’s more than Williams, Pomona, Swarthmore, or Bowdoin. They also place more than all but fewer than 20 Universities. They do very well. For some reason, there seems to be a fairly direct route for lacrosse players.
