Middlebury or Wash U??

I’ve narrowed my choices down to these two schools and I really really can’t decide. Even though they are incredibly different, I’ve visited both and loved them. Any help/input would be appreciated cause the deadline is coming up and I’m kinda freaking out.

I’m pretty outgoing, very active in sports (I play basketball and volleyball) and do party/drink. Would definitely rush if I went to Wash U. Not exactly sure what I want to study, but leaning towards econ/international politics/business/languages. At Midd I’m interested in the IPE major, and Wash U it would be Olin.

Middlebury: I really love the idea of a LAC, the tight community, and the rustic beauty Middlebury has to offer. It’s very cold however (I’m from Singapore!!), and I’ve heard some negative things about the varsity athletes. While I would definitely participate in athletics at either school, I’m not sure whether it’ll be at the club or varsity level. However, it does appear to me that MiddKids have a lot more school spirit/pride which I love.

Wash U: The campus is gorgeous, everyone is so incredibly nice, and of course you can’t beat the food or dorms. I also like how it has greek life, but that it isn’t too intense. The partying scene also seems a lot more varied, instead of really the one option you have at Midd. Olin is a fantastic business school. I would also be more accustomed to the environment, and thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Delmar Loop and forrest park.

Also would take into consideration grad school placement/job opportunities etc.

Hands down Middlebury. I’m from Singapore as well and I don’t find the cold particularly limiting. Social life here is decent and more importantly very inclusive. I think it all boils down to your academic interests because Middlebury has an exceptional language program, possibly the best in the US. The Econ department is great but I think its international studies dept which we call RCGA, is incredibly well-connected and it has tremendous resources and access to important figures in international affairs. In addition, I’m a non-athlete regular person and I feel that I don’t really have to interact with them to go to good parties, not to mention other fun, creative activities the students come up with here. Feel free to message me if you have any more questions.

Go to Wash U if partying is your priority. If academics, Midd.

oldbatesieDoc, lol. Let’s call it camp!

Hmm….I live adjacent to WashU, have been a guest critic on a couple occasions, been to many lectures and performances and know many students and faculty. I can attest to the high quality of both the students and the academics but I don’t know about the part scene OldbatsieDoc mentioned. It’s relatively quiet. The students are quite bright and hard working and most work across disciplines in impressive ways. Olin is a great school in an over the top beautiful new building and of course with the Loop and nearby neighborhoods there are great restaurants, museums, and opportunities to get out of the bubble. Sadly, no mountains or skiing. Both are great schools with outstanding resources and connections. Oh, yes, the international population here is quite diverse and rich. Best wishes with your choice, can’t go wrong.
