Middlebury RD Class of 2020!!!

I got in after being deferred ED2!! Feb admission so class of 2020.5

Here are my stats:
GPA: 3.75
ACT: 34 (35 English, 32 Maths, 32 Science)
AP: 5 in Spanish
IB predicted: 39-41

@emorydad1 @hopemojo1 Thank you so very much!

Chances of getting in off the waitlist are almost none. Thousands get waitlisted, sometimes the college takes a few, some years the donā€™t take any. If your child was a legacy, youā€™d get a waitlist instead of a rejection. Waitlists are a kinder form of rejection.

I agree that waitlist odds are extremely long (statistically worse than the original odds of getting accepted in the first place). But ā€œthousandsā€ is an overstatement for these small LACā€™s like Middlebury. Usually the stats are they wait a little over one thousand and about half those decline to stay on the list. So usually the list ends up mid-to-high 3-figures of which they may take anywhere from 0 to perhaps 50 depending on how the yield goes on those with straight acceptances. So give-or-take you have about a 5% chance on average. Still atrocious odds.

In general itā€™s lame the way they put so many on the waitlist knowing they donā€™t need more of it. By all accounts some of the reasons they do this are less than honorable. Some do it to soften the blow for kids at schools the college wants to remain on good terms with. Some game the college ranking system with these list: The initial acceptance rate is what is used for selectivity stats so if they accept fewer and later admit from the waitlist, they appear more selective than they are, etc.

I apologize if this is ignorant, but the Midd website confused me a bit. As for financial aid, do I have to accept admission before I get the financial aid package? Or do they send out a message with the amount I am awarded? I saw the Net Price Calculator, but I didnā€™t know how legitimate that was as far as actual aid goes.

@ruffalomybuffalo If you log into your admission portal there should be a link for the financial aid award letter directly below your acceptance letter.

Thank you! Sorry, I missed that entirely!

Hey guys! Iā€™ve been stalking this discussion for a while, and you all seem like amazing people! I was accepted as a Feb, but I havenā€™t found a Facebook group. I was thinking that it would be really awesome to connect with other Febs, as Iā€™m not sure what Iā€™d want to do with my gap semester, and I would love to hear all about your plans. Hope to see you guys in Vermont next year!

Thereā€™s definitely an official Facebook group if you are looking to join @ChillyJollyMaple! Iā€™d link it here but I donā€™t think I can link to Facebook.

Thereā€™s a Facebook group called Middlebury College Class of 2020 which about 400 people are on, and another one for Febs called Midd Class of 2020.5 with 30 people. The Feb group isnā€™t all that active as of yet, but a lot of people have posted in the 2020 group if you want to check it out!

^^ those probably donā€™t work, sorry :frowning:

Hey so I was accepted RD to Middlebury and my stats are really ā€¦ interesting and thought it best to include them

ACT- 32
UW- 3.3
W- 3.9
5 APs
Captain of Debate
Captain of Tennis
Captain of Ultimate Frisbee
Worked 40 hours~ish a week between 2 jobs

Your GPA is low for them but obviously they saw past it ā€“ congrats. Perhaps your two jobs and possibly your essay went into why you needed to do that. Thatā€™s pretty intense on top of a high school schedule and still being a leader in numerous ECā€™s.

@MrHopeful101 Iā€™ll include mine too for prospectives. I was accepted with a slightly below average GPA:

UW: 3.75/W: 4.05 (strong upward trend into Senior year)
ACT: 32
ECs: Hockey and tennis 2 teams a year for both, in and out of school, 3/4 years. Skiing/ski club, other hockey stuff for local organization, full time summer jobs. Random leadership in school.

I think Midd was impressed with your work ethic lol. 40 hours a week w/ school is impressive.

D accepted and will attend! SAT 2240 (1 sitting) and GPA 3.9. Great service and ECs. I assume her recommendations were good. No interview, but she was able to visit the campus last year - which just confirmed Midd as her #1 choice.

Oops, I realize this post is a little late! I was accepted regular decision.

I was homeschooled throughout high school. Since 10th grade I took the majority of my classes at my local community college.

I spent ~20hours a week since 10th grade in competitive swimming training.

Started my own produce salvage venture which I have been doing since 8th grade. Occupies ~4 hours/week for ~50 weeks a year.

2APs (Human Geography and Environmental Science): 5 on both.
2 SAT II (Math II and Physics): 770 and 710 respectively.

UW GPA of 3.93. Received 2 Bā€™s in Junior year (I was having some interpersonal issues during that time that were explained in my counselorā€™s letter) but strong showing senior year in challenging classes.

ACT composite of 35.

Hi All. Another late one. My son got in RD after being deferred ED2.

SAT: 2220 (V=780,M=680,W=760)
SAT2: 790 (English), 760 (European History)
UW GPA ~= 3.8
Lifelong soccer player (premier club, captain HS team)
Lifelong piano player (submitted 5 pieces via slideroom)
Captain Masterminds team
APs: Bio(3), US History(5), European History(4, course not offered), English(4), taking:Calc AB, Physics, US Gov
Recs: pretty confident they were both very strong; at least one was best-in-teaching-career variety
Essay(s): hard to say, of course, but S writes at a pretty high level. Ironically, not so much on SAT/AP tests (could be the handwriting
Some intended major (history/classics) related volunteer work but not a lot of hours
Interviewed with an alumni locally. It went very well, S reported.

S had a bit of a rocky sophomore year but came on strong junior year. He took a very heavy load senior year, including a selective program thatā€™s run outside the high school for the first half of every school day. I believe this program made the difference in his getting into a number of schools as it provided S with many substantial Jan/Feb application updates. S was able to update schools on his internship with an intl. aid agency and his groupā€™s winning of the state championship in an constitutional law competition (that sent them to D.C. for the nationals).

After reading about so many super-qualified kids getting denied or wait listed at elite schools my sense is that once youā€™ve cleared some standardized test score threshold, the admissions people start to focus hard on other parts of the application. Then thereā€™s randomness.

Does anyone know anything about the waitlists so far? or if someone has gotten off the waitlist yet?
