The acceptance rate was 19%, according to their page for admitted students. Based on what I’ve heard, I think this is the lowest rate MX has ever had (correct me if I’m wrong). All the more reason to give thanks. :)

Middlesex is currently overenrolled (with about 385 students as opposed to ~360 when I was a freshman) hence the lower acceptance rate.

I am a current mx student- feel free to pm me with any questions!

If Middlesex happens to over-enroll again, would there be a problem with sufficient housing/class size/etc.?

Thanks!

hey guys i am international applicant from hong kong, and i got wait listed at middlesex :(… hope i can get of waitlist… btw gantor and prepschoolseeker, did u guys get into DA

@lost1nth3music, the over-enrollment caused a few single rooms to become a crammed double for new freshmen and sophomores, but other than that I dont think it was a huge problem.

I think the admissions definitely cutted down on the number of admissions this year, because they don’t want to over-enroll again.

Any of you ppl who got accepted coming to revisit day?

btw, I m also a soph. in mx. :)

@ lollolcats

I did get into DA.

hey guys! I’m also entering Middlesex as a 10th grader in the 2011-2012 school year. I’m not exactly happy, though, because Middlesex was actually my last choice… I’m hoping to get off the waitlist before April 11 for my top choices. I’m not sure if I can even go, though, because Middlesex said they didn’t get my financial aid info, meaning I can’t afford it…

Thanks Brookie17!

I will not be attending revisits. Out of the two schools I applied to, I was only accepted at Middlesex, so revisit days are kind of unnecessary for me.

@helang425

I wish you the best of luck with your wait-lists and with your financial aid problem. What is best for you and your future will eventually work out. :)

wasn’t a lot of the overenrollment with day students? i know we’re definitely over our quota, at least this year.

oh, and i’m class of 2013 if you have any questions.

Yeah, I was accepted to DA too!
But my parents don’t like DA for some reason… They say it looks ‘old’ and that my cousins went to Middlesex and that I should go there too :(

I’ll still be going to Middlesex though!
I prefer smaller schools than larger ones. o.o

thank you lost1nth3music! you are very kind! I hope I get off the waitlist too… it’s just so disappointing.

Izzy Busy Bee, which area of academics would you say your school is strongest in? (like english, mathematic, science, etc.)

helang425,
I think I can answer that question, just because I happen to be on this right now, and I think my answer would prbly be similar to Busy Bee’s.

Definitely English. By far the most challenging for me as a new sophomore this year. Not because I am horribly bad at english or anything. I use to get an A- in english at a private school i went to before Middlesex. But the first few short essay grades i got here (a.k.a. paragraphs, that’s what they call them at mx) were in the B-/C+ range for me.
It’s a tough program, I managed to pull those grades up to something between a B and B+, which is what most people get for English here at mx. To get an A in english, u pretty much have to be amazing at it, and A+ is an impossibility and unheard of.
On top of that, all juniors in mx are required to take the AP english lit. as a course requirement, which is very rare in prep schools.

But knowing all that, you shouldn’t worry TOOO much about it, sophomores take a writing workshop class that meet once a week (not graded) that would help you get use to the english program.

English is the strongest field, but i guess if you chose to, u can also make other courses challenging by taking higher level courses, etc.

hope that helped. :)

To tag along with what Brookie said, I agree that English is the hardest subject particularly for underclassmen, but AP US History and the AP classes in math and science are some of the toughest classes offered. English is required for everyone (as you would expect) so it is often regarded as the most difficult subject since there is no way to opt out of AP Lit whereas it is completely a choice to take APUS, AP calc, etc. As a senior, I think that English is probably one of my easiest courses since I have been through the program along with everyone else; and the more advanced courses that seniors elect to take are far more challenging than senior English.

Yay Middlesex! PM me with questions if you want or ask them here.

Accepted @ mx 10th grade class of 2014 as well!!! What is the community like at middlesex? I know its supposed to be really close knit and everything but during my visit, I got the vibe that its really cliquey… is this true?

cottoncndy, a bit of a late reply…
you probably made a decision for next year already, but just fyi, it is pretty cliquey, but the class of 2014 is alright. However the class of 2013 is VERY divided in my opinion. It is one of the down sides to Middlesex, but the teachers there and the friends you make (once you know a group really well) will compensate for it.
