Middlesex class of 2020

Hey, I just got into my first choice school. I’m very happy to be attending the next academic year. Anybody else get accepted? Please reach out

Class of 2019 here. Congrats!

Thank you, I’m glad to be coming next year!

@oneexciteddude my DD is considering mx, Choate and Hotchkiss. Any thoughts? We would appreciate your perspective on middlesex.

i got accepted and attending!! congrats!

@neuroticmama sorry for late response, I hardly use this website anymore. For me MX is pretty unique as it is a fairly small school. I suppose every school talks about its community, and I can’t write about the other schools you’re daughter (is that what DD means?) was accepted into, but I can truly say Middlesex makes it very easy to assimilate.
The academics are rigorous as well, like most top tier boarding schools, but the teachers are very supportive. The one thing I would say about Middlesex and probably most boarding schools is the discussion that goes on compared to other schools is very special. I’ve had many eye opening conversations and discussions at my time at MX and gained new perspectives.

Sorry for the short response. That’s just my two cents.

Congratulations to those guys who got accepted! For those of you who couldn’t make it, I’m sure you guys were veyr qualified, as I talked to some officers, and they told me that “there were a lot of unfortunate ‘let-go’ students that we should have accepted.” I am currently a senior student (male) at Middlesex, graduating this year (unfortunately, I won’t be able to see you all). However, I want to leave some of my personal Middlesex experience/notes for you guys.

  1. We call it the "Middlesex Bubble." When students attend classes and sports here, they are very tightly knitted. They act as if others are their brothers and sisters.
  2. Middlesex is very hard-core and excellent at teaching english literature/essays/reading comprehension skills. I've always gotten lower than 650 in the Reading section in the SAT. However, after coming here and going through ap literature during junior year and their hard-core focus on comprehension skills, I was able to hit a 760 in my actual first SAT reading section. This doesn't mean that science/math areas are weak at all. However, one thing to keep in mind is that we have grade deflation. Our school's highest english score is 94, so you can set up a scale as in 94 (MX) = 100 (other schools).
  3. Small community really is the most important aspect at Middlesex. You're never forgotten or not talked about.
  4. Although they emphasize diversity at MX, there are quite a lot more whites than any other races (objectively speaking). For example, there are around 94 students in each class (Grade level) and about 70~80 of them are whites.
  5. Speaking from the bottom of my heart, go to the school that fits you the most. By fit, I mean that makes you the "star" or the school that makes you genuinely happy, where you will be able to balance academic and social life.
  6. If you are planning to attend here, be ready to man-up and grow up. "Your life is yours alone. Rise up and Live it." There are certainly going to be a lot more downs and ups than your previous life, but it's all up to you about how you're gonna handle it.
  7. As for sports, we have a very strong cross country team (fall), Ski team (winter), Lacrosse/Track teams (spring)... I really hate to say this as a Middlesex student, but being brutally honest here, other teams other than those 4 up there are literally sh** (bad records).

Thanks guys, and I hope you guys make it through!

@Melatonin So I’m feeling the sense that you didn’t like your experience at MX at all
