Where can I find when my midterms are? I want to make sure they don't conflict with my other classes/ midterms and other appointments. thanks!

professors will tell you when they pass out their syllabus.

oh okay, but i can’t find them online. so if there are any conflicts, they would have to be solved during adjustment period?

As far as I know, the only place to find out midterm times is on the course syllabus. I’ve gotten emails from two of my classes notifying me that the syllabus has been put on b-space, and from there I found out when my midterms were.

But, don’t most midterms just happen during regularly scheduled class time? Or is that not the case?

For large, lower division courses like Chem 1a, Bio 1a, etc. they state the midterm dates under “Note” for courses on the schedule.berkeley.edu website. Generally, large courses that are required for a certain major (for example, the lower-div courses for biology-related majors) are scheduled so as to avoid midterm/final conflicts.

you normally take midterms during the class hour, so any conflicts with midterms would mean conflict in your classes.

Midterms are usually taken during the class period, to my knowledge. The final exam schedule you already know, and the midterms scheduled outside of class hours have make-up periods and other accommodations associated with them.

That said, you’re pretty much guaranteed that your midterms will be clustered into the same periods of the semester. It’s called midterm season for a reason. >.>

E-mail your Head GSI or professors. They might not have finalized the dates, but at least you know something :P

well, i was signed up for the premed decal, and i got an email saying that there were conflicts with Chem 1A.
"Due to three midterm exam conflicts, we are highly encouraging all Chem 1A students to reconsider taking the DeCal. When the Chem 1A students will be missing from the three lectures, the classroom will not be nearly as full and this would be quite discouraging for our guest speakers. Furthermore, you as pre-med students would missing out on the useful information presented on those days. "

i’m not taking chem 1A, but I was just wondering if this may occur with any of my other classes.

Stuff like that happens. Some classes won’t tell you the midterm dates until you are already in the midst of the semester. Since most are during normally scheduled class hours, not a problem, but some will conflict with decals and clubs and other evening stuff. you will learn to deal with it.

If it does occur, the teaching staff (professor + GSIs) will usually make alternate arrangements for you. Do your best to find out any conflicts and avoid them if possible, but if you can’t find out the info, it can always be resolved later.

There’s nothing that ensures that you won’t be run over by a bus the day of midterms or finals.

thanks guys!
