Hey!
So my family might move to another state completely different from the one we live in right now for my sophomore year. I AM SO STRESSED. First of all, my parents cant seem to make up their mind about moving, making me struggle even more. Second, I don’t know what I would do if we moved cause the courses and graduation requirements in both states are different. Right now, I live at a pretty basic high school and plan to take advanced algebra II, pre-ap English II, honors chem., AP European history, advanced orchestra, German, and AP music theory for sophomore year. However, if I move, I would have to take all these new required courses, such as another year of physical activity, and my 4 yr plan for high school would change. I don’t know exactly what school I might move to, but it might be in a poorer area but the national ranking might be higher. In conclusion:
1.How will my current and future courses get transferred?
2.Should I worry about the whole new set of graduation requirements coming my way? Will it majorly affect what I visioned I would take during high school?
3.Is the transition hard?
4.My parents’ decision relies heavly on me; what should I tell them? To stick with my basic high school? Or risk everything and move? (FYI the basic reason for us moving is that my sister lives there and we want to be close to her; also, you should know we will most likely financially struggle in the new state)
5.What should I look for in a new school?
Thanks!!!
Differences in high school graduation requirements would be more of a concern for students who are doing the minimum it takes to graduate. Sounds like the biggest difference is a requirement for more gym. I would not worry about “a whole set of new graduate requirements coming your way.” I would wonder if your new high school offers German, because some schools are getting rid of it. Students change high schools all the time so I wouldn’t worry about how your courses would transfer.
