I haven’t had her cake (not a cake person), but I do use her chocolate chip recipe. It’s not too sweet.
Everything from Milk Bar is super sweet. I don’t like their baked goods at all. Whenever a NY bakery tries to expand into LA it flops. Too too sweet.
I find that’s the case for me with a lot of bakeries and desserts. Whenever I try a dessert recipe from anywhere, my default is usually to reduce sugar by 1/3
Which is your favorite LA bakery?
I’d like to know this as well!
I am very fond of Republique. Clementine, Copenhagen, Cake Monkey, Tartine, and Superba all have great products.
Dominic Ansel failed in LA for the same reason— too sweet.
Okay, I looked through @SweetBoy1 ’s suggestions and went with Cake Monkey. After conferring with one of the housemates, I ordered nine, “mini cakes,” and ten cookies. They offered gift box packaging in those quantities.
And funny that Republique was mentioned in that list - ds and I had brunch there when I visited last summer. Cake Monkey was closer and offered local delivery.
I will report back once the birthday arrives later this week!
Hope they enjoy the cakes!
