Millikin BA Acceptance

Hi I auditioned at Millikin and got placed in BA Theatre? Is that basically a rejection lol? Is it worth considering? If anyone knows about it or current students let me know.

I wouldn’t say it’s a rejection, especially if you auditioned late in the season. As a BA student, you still have access to most of the things BFA kids do. You’re on equal footing for mainstage casting and you can still take voice lessons and if there’s space, dance classes. Dance is hit-or-miss where some years it’s full and other years it’s been open to even non-theatre majors. The only thing that’s really closed off to BA is the highest-level acting classes, and that’s not for certain. If the prof. likes you enough you can get written in. It’s still a strong program, but if you got in BFA at somewhere similar, like Shenandoah or Roosevelt, take the BFA elsewhere.

@GloriaVaughn My main concern is getting taken seriously as someone who’s trying to still pursue training for Musical Theatre. During the parents meetings they talked about how people in the BA find their “niche” like costume designing etc. I know that I’m a performer regardless of how I got placed in the program. So if I went their with the BA would I be taken seriously?

@broadwayboy223 Probably. The kids they’re talking about at the parent meetings are the kids like I was, the ones who did everything in high school and didn’t much care if it was in front of or behind the curtain. I took a quick look at the BA students who graduated with me and the ones who weren’t techies got cast. They got respectably sized roles and leads too. One of them was recently cast professionally along with a BFA from the same year. The only people who might look down on you are other students, and those are the people you don’t want to be friends with anyway because they’ll drag you down professionally. There’s a jerk or mean girl in every crowd, no matter where you go or what your major.

@GloriaVaughn could i private message you? I’m trying to make a tough decision and you seem to know a lot about Millikin

Sure. Millikin is awesome, but you won’t be happy if it’s not a good fit for you. Caveat, I was a music major, but I worked for the dept. of theatre and dance and lived on the arts floor, so I do know the program.
