Hi… I’ve got accepted to two schools but waitlisted for Milton, which was my first choice. Have any of you guys heard from Milton? Do you know if they’re looking through the waitlist, cause if they’re not i really need to choose b/n two schools ive got accepted. I really hope they are accepting some 10th grade boarders (female) from the waitlist this year…
Why not contact an admissions officer and tell them of your situation. If they are still evasive, then I would say you need to move on. My daughter only heard from the school where she was waitlisted once and I want to say that it was earlier than June. The message was still non-committal and fuzzy about how long they would keep the list.
At this point I am sure they have a full class. A couple spots may open when first semester payments are due if someone backs out at the last minute, but that is a long shot. I agree with @MAandMEmom - call your AO and ask them point blank.
June first is the day on which most schools require the first tuition payment. Traditionally there is a bit of melt around this date as a few people back out and give up their deposit but no one here can tell you which classes, if any, may have spots. I agree with the first two posters who recommend contacting your admissions officer.
Are you a day or boarding applicant?
FWIW, at my daughter’s school the first payment is due in August I think.
@MAandMEmom - My son’s is due in August as well. No idea when Milton’s is due, but whenever it is, that is likely the next time there might be movement from the waiting list.
Milton struggles with getting boarding students. They have tons of day applicants. If @IVYGAL2019 is a boarding applicant then she may have a better chance. If she isnt then maybe she should make that request…
They have such few spots by the time you get to high school because they have a lower school and all the kids matriculate up to the high school. By the time you get to 9th and 10th we’re talking onesies and twosies for each male/female spots.
@Center the OP says in her OP that she is a female 10th grade boarder.
@Korab1 ah thanks.
@Korab1 @MAandMEmom I’ve contacted the admissions office numerous times but they were never availabe. Plus my interviewer keeps replying me to wait til August and she’s trying so I cant lose hope althought I really want to give up.
do you know when money is due for each of the schools? You need to find that, and also find the refund policy for each of the schools if you withdraw before the start of school. The date money is due for your second choice will determine how long you can wait on Milton. If you have to pay your second choice, and your parents share your enthusiasm for Milton, and Milton comes through after payment is made to choice #2, maybe your parents can afford to give up whatever it would cost to withdraw from #2 and enroll at Milton.
I would make sure Milton knows what your drop dead date is, so they can act accordingly.
@preppedparent Actually, Milton’s K-8 school is relatively small in size (35 students if I’m not mistaken), whereas their high school has 160-something students; thus not affecting 9th grade admissions that much. However, as OP is a 10th grade applicant, her chances are -as they would be for any other high-ranked prep school- pretty slim. I’m pretty sure Milton’s first deadline to pay is somewhere in the beginning of August.

From their website, @StandardizedGirl K-8 has 315 students, ten times what you thought. I live very nearby. Every morning driving by campus, I see a line of cards dropping off day students. My recs stand. thanks.
@preppedparent Well, 315 kids in 9 grades -including K-, so 315 : 9 = 35 (I should’ve said 35 students PER GRADE, sorry about that). Thus, every year, 35 students in grade 8 go into grade 9. I might still be wrong, I’m just trying to help…
So I think you are assuming that each grade has the same number of kids. I think they keep increasing the number of students per year, so by the time they get to 8th grade, they have close to the number they need to matriculate to 9th with few open slots. There were 190 students in the graduating class this year. The real question is how many 8th graders do they already have enrolled that are presumed to go on to 9th.
From their website:
http://www.milton.edu/k8/admission/faq/
So according to this 8th grade is about 55 students. IIRC from my own admissions process, 9th grade is about 150 leaving room for about 95 new 9th graders, assuming all 8th graders continue to the Upper School.
Thanks for the good research @skieurope So from their website: Boarding/Day student ratio: 50/50. So for 9th, they take <50 boarding students and likely the same amount of day students. If the ratio of men and women is equal which is what they also state on the website that’s 25 girls and 25 boy slots for boarders. Slim pickins in my opinion. This is mostly a day school.
Probably more like 75 boarders and 25 day students, since the students from 8th grade would likely remain as day students.
