Hey! I saw that you private messaged me, but I figured that I would post here just so others can see my response as well. I applied to Minerva in the first Early Action round for the class of 2025 and was rejected. I am taking a gap year right now because of Covid, so I have already graduated high school (and I graduated with an associates degree).

As you probably know by this point, Minerva’ application is very different than a usual application, so I don’t think my normal “stats” will be any sort of comparing point for you. In case you don’t know, the application consists of 6 accomplishments + proof that you completed these accomplishments, and I think that is where I fell short. I personally did not have any ground breaking accomplishments compared to a lot of other applicants. For reference, my accomplishments were:

  1. Full study abroad scholarship from US State Department for a year
  2. Participating in a Girls Who Code program at Ernst & Young for a summer
  3. Tutoring college students in English (mostly non-native English speakers)
  4. Interning at Sea-Tac International Airport in Information Technology as a high schooler
  5. Placing 2nd in the State for my event in DECA (business club)
  6. A realization that I have had in my life (not exactly an “accomplishment” but it was a turning point for me that I felt was an accomplishment)

So as you can see, there wasn’t really anything incredibly outstanding in my accomplishments. I think that Minerva is also looking for passion towards a more narrow topic, where a lot of my application was kind of all over the place. If there is something that you are very passionate about, definitely try to highlight that in your application.

After the accomplishments, the next section was a kind of like a recorded “test” that had like 5-6 different sections, and I definitely did realllly bad on the math section and not the best on the recorded questionnaire section ahahaha so that probably did not help me out either. Also, my ACT score was a 28 (I dont think that they even saw this at all though) and my GPA was a 3.83 unweighted.

At the end of the day, I knew that Minerva was insanely selective and I was still willing to put in the time for the application. I spent a lot more time on the application than I would like to admit, so just make sure that you are going to be okay if you get rejected after spending a ton of time on it. It is definitely worth a shot!

Let me know if you have any questions about anything else! Good luck

Did you did challenges all together and was your early-action binding?
