Minor across schools?

Hi there,
Could I go to the Mellon College of Science, and then get a minor in Computer Science from the SCS, or would this minor only be available for students in Scs? Would I also need to have been accepted to SCS to do this?

You’ll want to review the catalog (online) – as there are minors in all colleges and they are designed for within the same school or outside the same school.
CS minor is for those outside SCS. If you are accepted to SCS, you’re a CS major.
CIT-- there’s a bunch of minors for CIT students and then also minors for those outside of CIT, including a broad based one termed “engineering studies”.

Notice your name Jazzking- -there’s also a Music Tech minor! This has many of the required CS classes - -same as those for a CS minor- check it out.

You don’t declare a minor until at least sophomore year - with few exceptions. You can however begin your courses and make plans with your advisor starting first semester if you know what you intend.

Lots of flexibility at CMU. Some people make changes in majors and minors multiple times.
The only degree program that requires a minor is in fact SCS. Having a minor in other programs is completely optional.

Thank you very much for your help, it was just what I was looking for. I’ve actually dreamed of doing some kind of computer music in college, so thanks for pointing this out to me. I’ll be sure to look through the catalog.

Here’s the Link

[Music and Technology](http://music.cmu.edu/musicandtechnology/index.html)

You can start taking classes even before officially being in the major.

It’s a great major or minor.
I cannot find the link for the minor requirements.

No audition necessary if you are doing this on the tech side.

There’s also a Jazz Band – check out 57-227, even an A and B band.
S plays in the band.

These are the courses of interest in Music and Computer Science departments:
57-101 Introduction To Music Technology 6 units
57-347 Electronic and Computer Music 6 units
57-337 Sound Recording 6 units
57-338 Editing and Mastering 6 units
57-438 Multitrack Recording 9 units
15-322
15-323

Sorry, had to answer the front door and CC timed me out before I could finish the post or edit it.

and within COmputer Science Department
15-322 Introduction to Computer Music
(here’s the link to the class)
[15-322 Introduction to Computer Music](15322 Introduction to Computer Music)
15-323 Computer Music Systems and Informational Processing (pre-req is 15211 - a really tough CS weeder class)
[Computer Music Systems and Information Processing](Computer Music Systems and Information Processing)

There’s a ton of Jazz classes too in Music Department

Hopefully a current Music Tech student can offer some insights on these courses???
