So I’m applying to college next year…and not really sure about what I should do. I definitely know that I want to major in Computer Science (artificial intelligence, systems/troubleshooting, security, cryptology, etc.) I also want to either have a minor or a double major. I just don’t know which ones would cohesively work out well with a cs…any advice? Also, any ideas of good colleges for such majors…(i dont want a schools that super hard to get into with a lot of competition but I also dont want a college thats like a safety school) Thanks!
It’s rare that a double major is ever worth it unless a school offers a combined program. Go CS and do a concentration within the field. Minors won’t matter much, take one that interests you if you want one.
There’s tons of good CS schools in that range. Start by looking at other eliminating preference factors and then search within those criteria. Large school or big school? Financial factors? Distance factors? etc.
It’s one thing if you can’t decide between two particular majors, but there’s no reason to double major for its own sake. You won’t have as much time to take advanced electives that could help your career.
Double majors are rarely worth the effort for students with highly marketable degrees. The CS degree program may have several common options for minors that are of interest to students. Which minors will depend upon the university. For many schools a minor in Mathematics may be relatively easy to add to the existing CS requirements.
