Minor for a future teacher?

So I am going to be majoring in English with a focus in secondary education and am wondering what would be a good minor choice. I love the ideas of psychology and creative writing, but I still am not completely certain. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Your school should have a list of teaching minors and have details regarding what courses you need to take for each of them. You should find one where you feel that you both enjoy and can do well in the coursework.

Our DD1 minored in Spanish. She teaches high school English but also an ESL class. In our area, her Spanish has been very useful as well as bumping her pay up.

You may not actually have room to take a minor if you are doing English with a teaching certification. Usually the courses for a teaching certification are the equivalent of a minor or maybe a little more, and also remember that your last semester will be spent student teaching, so you’ll only be taking 7 semesters of coursework instead of 8.

If you do have time for a minor, it can be whatever you want. Certain minors may be more useful than others; I was actually also going to suggest Spanish, as for a teacher having an ESL or bilingual endorsement can help you find a job (especially in certain urban areas). Psychology could be useful if you want to become a school psychologist or guidance counselor after teaching for a few years. You could also minor in another field you could potentially teach in. But you could also choose a minor purely based on your interests.
