I believe in most southern colleges asians still get URM status, as far north as Duke.

for the most part unless you fall into: native american, black, or hispanic you will NOT get that URM status.

This is not necessarily true. While blacks, hispanics and Native americans are underrepresented in most colleges there are also a large number of colleges where asians are considered URMs. Yes at some schools being vietnamense wil give you URM status

I was speaking about competitive schools. I know schools like University of Alabama and whatnot try to attract more asians, but the fact of the matter is many people on this board will not be setting their sights on that school.

Duke has 13% Asian American, plus another 5% internationals some of which are Asians. Are you sure they treat Asians as URM? Reference please?

They don't because Duke is a competitive school, the above poster who said they would count asians as a URM is sadly mistaken.

I guess it depends on what you consider a competitive school. Are asians considered ORMs at HYP and the rest of the ivies yes. Are they overrepresented at some of the other 3000 schools where you can get a great education no. Once you basically get out of the list of schools that are reaches for almost everyone who applies (or schools with a prestige or great name recognition is which still all relative depending on what part of the country you live in), you will find that the field is pretty wide open

But maybe you may not consider schools such as Bowdoin, Bucknell, Colby, Grinnell Middlebury, Reed, Wake, Skidmore, etc competitive.
