Only on hardwood. We don’t have much tile in our small bathrooms so I manually wash those floors. I think a steam mop will be better for grout/tile.
They’re hardly new and not miracle products, but I’ve recently embraced smart switches and smart outlets. Our exterior lights are now on smart switches that automatically go on/off at dusk/dawn.
I’ve also got our entryway lights on a smart switch grouped with the exterior lights so when guests are coming I say “Alexa welcome guests” and everything turns on. We also have a decorative backlit mirror that I’ve put on a smart outlet with both a schedule and Alexa commands.
It’s fun stuff to play with and the switches look cool (they have an icon that illuminates when off so you can see them at night). Another benefit is that I can control everything remotely while traveling, so it gives a little extra security while away.
The switches and plugs are very easy to setup and were easy to integrate with Alexa. The one linked below is the brand I’ve been using (Kasa) - no hub or other hardware required. Honestly I was expecting setup issues but everything worked like a charm.
ChomChom pet hair remover was in my Amazon daily deals email today. $7.00 off at $19.95.
When our school district invested in a hypochlorous acid cleaning system about 10 years ago I did a lot of research into it and was so impressed that I looked for a residential system. I settled on Force of Nature, which I love, but I think any of the systems would be great. This was just the easiest for me. I was so glad we had this during Covid and I’ve turned half of my neighborhood onto it and they love it as well.
I use it for both cleaning and wound care for my dog (hot spots). I pay pennies per bottle instead of $20 for a few ounces of Vetericyn.
There is also a FB page devoted to hypochlorous acid, the science behind it, and off-label uses.
Encouraged by various Oofos praise on these CC thread (thanks!) and various online reviews, I bought a pair locally today. I plan to use them as indoor slippers, to have good support due to concerns about plantar fascitis mentioned in fitness thread.
With a size 7 1/2 foot, I was eager to try on locally before deciding on which whole size. DSW has only one pair of Womens 7 (flip flop only), which was OK… sigh, no 8 for comparison (but tons of size 5, 6, 9+). I called our Brown’s shoe store, and they had various styles and colors. Once there I was not all that surprised that fit varied by style of Oofos flip flop (sometimes 7 better, sometimes 8). I was surprised that the same style in different colors felt different. I ended up with a pair of size 7 navy flip flops because they seemed to give me the best support, with arch in right place. Someday in cooler weather, I may opt for a pair of Oofos slides to wear with socks.
Wearing my slides with socks now! It’s my cooler weather at home look!
On the shoe topic - does anyone have a preference as to Oofos or Vionic for walking? My running shoes are overdue for a replacement, and thought since I’m walking (rather than running) 80% of the time I might try something different.
Know folks here love Oofos, but not sure if a “recovery” shoe is okay for walking about 2-3 miles at a time, 4x a week?
My insta feed is also promotic Vionic (since I searched for comfortable shoes/good for bunions, lol)
I have had 3 pairs of Oofos but they are slides or flip flop types so while very comfortable, I would only wear a shoe with a closed heel for a real walk. Oofos does make some “shoe” models but I have never tried. Unless you’re walking on the beach!
Do you wear open heeled shoes while walking?
I don’t know about walking…but I have a pair of Vionic house slippers that are amazing. And a pair of sandals. Again…excellent arch support and very comfortable.
Delete - bad info.
@1214mom are you talking about oofas or vionic?
Vionics makes a walking sneaker type shoe.

They have brick and mortar stores where you can try shoes on.
I saw a pair of oofus shoes on a woman yesterday, they looked great but I wouldn’t walk miles in them. They did not look like they would hold up for that purpose.
We have a couple of good shoe stores around here or a local running shoe store. Go and get fitted and look for opinions as to the best shoes for fitness walking.
Me personally, I would wear a dedicated walking athletic shoe for fitness walking.
Thanks - I just deleted my post.
Another vote for a “real” walking shoe for that purpose. I’d probably choose a running shoe with good cushioning and support. DH would probable choose something like a Merrell or Salomon low hiking shoe. I like the flexible sole - he likes the stiffer sole. Pretty much a matter of personal preference.
I walk 4-5 miles/day and neither would provide enough arch support for me. I had a gait analysis done with a PT years ago and then again at a running store because I have some issues. I walk in Brooks sneakers in the warm months, and On Cloud or Keen boots in the winter but it’s so individual.
I agree. In fact I found my fitness walking shoe by visiting a running store (I don’t run…just try to do a daily 3-4 mile walk). It is affiliated with a nearby division 3 college with an excellent track and field program. The people there are knowledgeable and passionate about fitness…you can tell by the questions they ask as you discuss your needs and try on various shoes. (There’s even a mini-track in the store for testing a shoe before buying it.) It was this store that recommended Oofos to me many (more than 5) years ago.
Also, I found alternating shoes helps me…not sure if it’s all in my head but it works for me. It also helped when the shoe brand changed my usual model and I was grateful I still had the old version.
Lastly, on my recent Europe trip I wanted a comfortable walking shoe but one that would look ok…as in more neutral color. I chose an On shoe. It is super lightweight, slip on and comfortable. My DH, the tennis player, tried the brand because of Roger Federer’s connection. He liked it so much, he was able to convince me to get a pair. How did I like it? I loved them! I traveled with only a carryon and a personal item for a 3 week trip. They served me well on cobblestone and more stairs than I’m used to at home. I wore heavier shoes (Ecco) on the plane and packed the On and a pair of Oofos.
Good to hear about the On shoe. I love the look.
I had actually been on the lookout for a SANDAL that I could walk decently in for distances like a 3 mile walk when it’s hot in the summer. Alternating with an athletic shoe. I found these Teva’s and love them. They are comfortable for a moderate 2-3 mile walk. I wore them for walking all around NYC as well. But I agree that a walking/running shoe is really the best for daily walk habits.
One more comment about walking shoes - most of us don’t replace them regularly enough. Even with walking, the cushion gets compressed long before the shoe looks worn out. 300-500 miles is the max per shoe.
For me that’s every four months or so which seemed crazy fast but if I’m paying good attention, that’s when I start feeling more aches in pains in my hips and knees.
My brooks ghosts wore out and I ordered a new pair. But I want to save them for running on the treadmill this winter. So I’m walking in a pair of adidas ultraboost that I bought to take to Europe next month.
I always like to have a “clean” pair for the treadmill and then I’ll wear them outside. I only use the treadmill when the weather is too terrible to get outside.
Which apparently wasn’t today. It was 36 and a rain/snow mix!
