As a scholarship finalist I have a choice to apply to one of these 2 programs.
I am equally interested in both IT management and IT security.

As I see from rankings at US News - these universities are more or less the same (average) level.
Could you advise which one you would prefer and why in terms of prestige, future employment, campus, number of students in class etc ?

Prestige from my perspective is roughly equivalent. You can get stats on employment and class size from the colleges themselves or guidebooks. Maybe others who have been to the two campuses will chime in for you on that.

GW is a good school but it’s strength is in the International Affairs / social science area, not IT or CS. I don’t really know anything about the Pitt program but CMU is right next to Pitt and they have the best Information Security as well as Information Systems Management program in the country. You probably will have a chance to take some classes from CMU as I know CMU students can take classes from Pitt.

Zerolife nailed it. Don’t go to GW for anything STEM. Don’t don’t don’t. It’s a politico’s paradise first and foremost, and maybe good if you’re into political journalism, but Pitt is a better choice for the math/science side of things.

Curumo - Can you possibly share info about the scholarship you mention? I am thinking about MSIST program and my 2 cents - if looking for a job in/near DC then go with GWU. It’s the cult here locally educated gets first choice (guess it’s everywhere).

At management level, it’s not about hands-on IT but understanding the big picture.
