Alright, I am currently an MIS major, I like it and am pretty good at it...but am thinking about picking up a Management major as well....as further down the road I know that I don't want to be doing the "tech" side of things and would love to be either like a Product manager or even like a sales director or something for a tech firm. My Advisor pretty much says a management degree is worthless when I'm already doing MIS because of the ridiculously high placement rates and stuff.....but I just don't want to be pigeonholed into "just coding" the rest of my life....any thoughts? Is a double major with management worth it?

That’s the whole point of doing an MIS degree instead of a Comp Sci degree, so that you have the option to become an analyst/etc. instead of doing the pure software engineering that most Comp Sci grads do. In fact, I would argue that you should be going for a less technical position as an MIS grad. I don’t think a Management concentration will do much to help you except maybe help you develop better leadership/people skills which you usually end up learning on the job having to deal with clients anyway.

If you find another major that interests you enough to double major then definitely go for it, as it should add a lot to your degree, but I don’t think Management is the right choice.

I don’t know about what the best combo would be but isn’t MIS a “management” degree? Management Information Systems?

Would seem redundant to get another management degree if that is the case. You should couple it with a degree that would open more doors, not the same ones that MIS already opens.
