Miserable at my school, want to transfer

I currently attend Trinity College in Hartford, but I'm absolutely miserable. It wasn't my first choice, but I got a decent amount of money and was able to stay somewhat near home so everything was fairly perfect. I can't stand the ignorance of so many children here; I grew up in a diverse neighborhood and race was never an issue for me, and the amount of racism I see on campus is disgusting. The intellectual drive is atrocious and I really just dislike it here.

I'd really like to transfer to a better school and certainly one that is more liberal.

I had a 94ish final average in high school, but the last three years I held a 98-102 average, with one 92 average a quarter.
My freshman year was horrible, my mother was sick and I was terribly worried.

My SATs aren't great, but not terrible. I got a 2100 (710 reading, 680 Math, 710 writing)

My ECs are a few clubs that I loved and volunteering at a hospital.

I'm not really sure how transferring works, but I'm curious at what kind of schools I should be applying to and when should I be doing this. I'd love to attend Wesleyan (My first choice originally), Brown, Columbia, Cornell or Boston University, but I don't know what my chances are to get into there. I've gotten an A on the first test I've taken so far and the classes seem to be fairly easy. I plan on going to med school, but I have a deep interest in philosophy and physics.

So my question is: is it better to transfer in as in as a junior or sophomore? I hate it here, but I just want to be happy and whatever is the best I'm willing to do. I'm sorry if this seems a bit erratic, but I'm not really sure what steps to take as a transfer. Can someone please maybe over advice as to what I should be doing, what schools I should be applying to, or anything you think would help?

Thank you so much, I truly appreciate any advice.

How much aid do you need? That will determine your options.

I need a fair bit, I could probably pay up to 30k-35k a year for school.

if you can maintain an average of 3.8+ with your SAT, you will be competitive. I’m not saying that you are likely to get in to schools like Columbia, Brown, or Cornell because they are impossible to get into as transfers but you have a very solid chance at Wesleyan and BU is a lot easier to get into. I think Wesleyan is great and their academics are on par with the ivy leagues, BU is an okay place for ugrad.

Should I retake my SATs? I didn’t really study for them when I took them, I only took 2 practice tests, but I think I could do a lot better. Do you also have any suggestions for making the transfer easier, such as what to take? Any other school recommendations are nice as well. I’d like somewhere that has a broad curriculum with a good science program, kind of like Harvey Mudd. I really love physics and if I don’t go to med school, I’d like to pursue a physics PhD.
