Miss America 2008 is a curent Musical Theater student at CCM.

Miss American is a current University of Cincinnati student at the Colege Conservatory of Music and is a Musical Theater student. This gives you the idea of the quality of the CCM students.

I wonder if she was sick during her performance. Her voice did not sounds like it was all there.

She said during an interview that she was the first to perform her talent and that she was very nervous. May be that's why. I did not see her performance, but she seemed very eloquent and grounded, a very nice young lady. We are not really into the pageant thing in our household, because of the "fake factor", however Kirsten Haglund appeared anything but fake. I am pretty sure that she would not be at CCM if she would not be extremely talented :).

Holy sexy swimsuit body!

haha

^haha.....

Hi, I believe that she dropped out last year to pursue both Miss Michigan and Miss America pageants, but I heard from my daughter that they were all rooting for her at CCM Sat. nite!

Unfortunately my H and I are reality buffs, and waste way too much time watching it. We watched some of the behind the scenes stuff earlier in the week. She had not stood out to me then, but she does seem extremely poised, beautiful and possesing of a great stage presence. Her voice just sounded a little tight to me in the upper register, hence the comment. I thought she acted the song very nicely.
It might even have been an issue with the mic, as I thought it was for the young woman who played the violin. I am sure she does not sound scratchy like that when she plays, but her string crossings sounded very coarse.

It was interesting to me how they tried to make the pageant more real this year. They encouraged the girls to get away from the whole helmet hair thing, and to not walk like robots. They also spliced in more behind the scenes things from girls that were not finalists. I think it was better than it used to be as far as entertainment goes.

That makes two MT students in a row to be crowned Miss America. Last year's winner is an MT student at the University of Central Oklahoma!

Wow, she looks about 10 years older than she actually is. Not to be mean, but if I saw her on the street I would not think she was a 19 year old. However that might have to do with the eating disorder she had, according to the little blurb in that article. But in general kids nowadays look so much older than they are. I'm 22 and people who don't know me think I'm only 14/15. It's crazy when I see kids 5-10 years younger than me look 5-10 years older!

I didn't get a chance to see the competition, but for those of you who think she didn't sound her best, just cut her a little slack, because she probably wasn't at the top of her game that night. My sister was a top 10 semi-finalist several years ago (when all the top 10 still did their talent) and I can tell you that by the night of the pageant those girls are absolutely exhausted. They get very little rest thanks to the constant rounds of rehearsals, press appearances, social gatherings, etc. that go on for a few weeks before the pageant. I'm sure the reality show only added to the pressure and exhaustion. It really becomes an issue of stamina.

I heard she was really not a singer but a dancer and had to give up dancing for a while when she developed anorexia so singing is not her strength.
