I missed my MIT deadline for ED, and the thing is all of my rec letters and transcript are in for the ED term. So what should I do now to change that into RD? I have trouble changing the term to RD.
What does your guidance counselor say?
If you can’t change RA to RD yourself using MyMIT, email admissions. The staff is nice and helpful.
I actually emailed them but they did not seem to recognize what I was trying to say. I asked them whether I have to create a new account and having my teachers to re-submit their letters to MIT’s ApplyWithUs or I can still stay with the account and just select Regular Decision term later. The answer I received was very vague, that is why I am totally confused
Call the school. Stop emailing and pick up the phone.
Do you really think it is? If that works, then I can do it. However, the problem is lying in the recommendation website, so I am afraid that sending email would explain the problem better. I just sent a new email and clearly explain the problem with screenshots. I don’t know if they are going to actually understand if I call them on the phone though
You seem to be making this complicated. You missed the deadline, and need to change your application status (and associated materials like transcripts and LORs) from ED to RD. Your not the first, and you won’t be the last. That’s a simple switch, and it should be doable either through the portal or by the admissions office. They want to help applicants. I don’t know where “lying” or questions of not understanding come in.
I don’t think they’re incapable of understanding what it is they’re seeing on the screen. After all, they’re adults who have been doing this a long time. Your problem isn’t all that unique.
Explain it clearly and they’ll understand.
Pick up the phone Monday during business hours.
I would also be sure you get the terminology right when you call – I believe MIT does not offer ED but has EA.
Probably because you were not explaining it well. You are not the first person who has ever switched an application from EA to RD, so the people at MIT are quite familiar with what to do. All you really need to do is send an email stating that you want to switch your application, Application ID 1234567, from EA to RD. That’s it.
Yes you can contact them by phone (1.617.253.3400.), but they will probably want something in writing.
You asked a straightforward question of us. But you asked an entirely different question of MIT.
They have the documents. You say here you have a account number. They’re very bright in MIT Admissions. They’ll hold the docs in your file under your id.
All it takes is one email asking them to change your preference to RD. Don’t complicate their lives by overthinking.
OP didnt mean “lying” as in an untruth.
If you don’t complete everything by the EA deadlines, you are automatically switched to the regular decision.
