Missed Early Decision Opportunity

I really regret not applying ED to cornell and was wondering if there is any realistic way of demonstrating on my application that Cornell is my first choice school? I feel very comfortable that my "fit" with the school I'm applying to, and my knowledge of the school conveyed through my essays will contribute to showing my interest, but I know this wouldn't carry nearly as much weight as declaring ED which is frustrating...any help in how I could show this is greatly appreciated.

Just include in your essay your interest in the college you are applying to. It might sound slightly pathetic (for lack of a better word) if you plead with them that you really wanted to apply ED, but you missed it.

If there is enough evidence of your interest, then that's all you need.

So then why did you choose to apply to Northwestern ED, or is it just that hindsight is 20/20?

All you can do is illuminate how Cornell fits with your academic and extracurricular interests.

I would say do not say how you would have liked to apply ED because that seems like pandering. When you do your supplemental essays, do some research write about specific info about the school you are applying to (as in: include the name of a well regarded prof, or some type of research that is going on)

Cayuga...because after having conversations with my counselor, my family and I determined that I was a greater fit to the NU profile of past successful applicants from my school than the almost non-existant profile of successful cornell applicants (slaughterhouse), and this worried me...Not to mention that my parents are HUGE NU fans, and really wanted me close to home. So I guess using my 20/20 hindsight, I see that I made an emotionally/family tied decision rather than remaining with my original ED choice school in Cornell. Btw, I like your posting style, lol...

Don't mention ED -- and certainly don't mention the fact that you applied elsewhere ED.

If Cornell is truly your first choice, you can mention that. Just keep your mouth shut about the whole ED issue.

Many applicants do not apply anywhere ED because they need to be able to compare financial aid packages. Cornell and every other university that offers ED knows this. The fact that you did not apply to Cornell ED will not suggest to them that you don't prefer Cornell; more likely, they will assume that you chose not to apply ED for financial reasons (if they think about it at all, which they probably won't).

Keep your mouth shut about ED, and trust me, ED hurts you more than it helps you. The pool is more competitive.
