Missed Skype College Interview

I am an international student currently going to high school in China. I had a Skype interview scheduled for 12pm and have been waiting in front of my computer since 11am. I thought my interviewer was running late so I waited 20 minutes. At 12:20, I was just about to email her to see if there had been a change of plans when I saw she emailed me at 12:02 saying she went online but I wasn’t online. I emailed her back immediately saying I have been online all morning and apologized. I asked her for her Skype name so I could add her. When she didn’t reply me after 10 minutes, I emailed her again apologizing and saying I’d be happy to reschedule. Is there anything else I can do? Will this affect my chances?

Unfortunately, it probably did have a negative impact on her impression of you. Apologizing and offering to reschedule was absolutely the right thing to do.

I’m assuming the time difference is manageable since you were able to schedule a Skype interview. If I were you, I would find a time to call the admissions office, ask to speak with her, and personally reassure her that you’re interested in the school and regret any technical difficulties that may have occurred. I think that would be an appropriate next step if you haven’t heard from her by now.

There’s not much else you can do at this point, so don’t worry about it. It doesn’t sound like you actually did anything wrong except perhaps not check your email immediately. Hopefully you can reschedule. She’ll likely be slightly annoyed, but this happens with virtual interviews and it won’t be the end of the world.
