Hi, I got matched with an interviewee almost 2 hours away and she wants me to come in during school hours. What should I do? Can I tell her to skype or phone interview as Im in school or should I be cutting class for this? Please help, Im so confused
In my opinion, that is asking too much of you. The interviewer should have at least asked you when you were available.
Suggest the SKPE or phone interview. They should not be requesting an interview two hours away during school hours.
always ask if they have another time to do so. but she should have asked what would have been an appropriate time for you to come in as well
Ask yourself this question.
Which is more important: some trivial classwork or an interview (which could very well increase your chances of acceptance) with one of the most prestigious universities in the nation?
Seems like a pretty easy choice to me.
She just listed 3 different days with all morning appointments. So Im not sure if she will give me a bad review if I suggest Skype
That is still a bit inconsiderate. I guess it depends upon whether Rice is one of your top choices.
One common problem is that interviewers sometimes have last minute emergencies & need to reschedule. Missing a day of school & driving 2 hours one way is a slight risk.
Are you located in a rural area & the interviewer in a city ?
Interviewer cannot expect a HS kid to drive 2 hours. Presumptious to assume the student has access to a car and is allowed to drive 2 hours, during school hours no less.
I’d say you don’t have the ability to get there during the school day and suggest SKYPE or phone.
Interviewers are usually really nice and helpful. Sometimes busy folks don’t pay much attention to details but if you request a phone or Skype session, she would understand.
