Missing College

I just graduated this past weekend. I went to a private for profit college, took classes mostly online except for four classes I took on campus. I now have my four year degree in management. For the past five years I worked retail full time. Now I am wishing I had taken more classes on campus, gotten to know the teachers better, had formed friendships with people there, and wish I could do it all over again. I wish I would have done the work study program. I gave up my whole college experience for my job that may end up laying me off and is treating me horribly. I plan to keep in touch with my career advisor teacher, but I feel like it's all over for me and I wish it were only beginning. I did need to work full time because of my bills, but I just wish I had the chance to do things differently. After talking to a few people I am getting the feeling that this college will soon start to offer MBA's and other master degree programs in the future and that is something I'm really interested in. Has anyone ever felt this way after graduating? The people at the college such as some teachers, director's and career advisors tell me I'll always be a part of the college no matter what and I am always welcome to all their events such as the cook outs, career fairs, and networking events. I don't know why I am feeling so sad about college being over. Maybe because I've lost a lot of people in my life over the past two years and may lose yet another person to cancer and one of my favorite supervisor is leaving. I just feel like everyone around me in my life is leaving and it's making me so sad.

It sounds like you just need a little time to adjust to the changes that are happening in your life. Finishing school is a pretty big deal and starts an entirely new chapter in life. Instead of looking back and wishing that you had done some things differently, it is time to look ahead.

Think of the time that you have now and all that you can do with it. For starters it sounds like looking for another job would be a great idea. If you don’t like where you work or you think they are not treating you right, then put some resumes together and get them out there. If you put them out on some of the online job sites, they will get looked at and you could get an offer from a whole new place.

It might also be a good idea to go and get a check-up. Go see your regular doctor and tell him or her how you are feeling. You could be suffering from some post college blues and need a little help to get back on track. If you have a negative attitude towards everything it will not help with making new friends or doing better at work.
