Missing teacher rec question.

D applied EE and received an email about 10 days ago letting her know that one of her rec letters (mailed by one of her college professors) was missing from her file. She wrote back letting them know she would have the professor email the letter to them.

A very considerate response from the director of admissions came today apologizing for the delay in responding and letting DD know that they didn’t really need the other rec anyway.

She’s a pretty impressive candidate accepted EA to Georgetown, 35 ACT, 80 credit hours with a 4.0 GPA in dual enrollment.

Any thoughts about what that might mean?

Exact wording from Email is

“The recommendations you’ve submitted are sufficient. We will mark them accordingly in our system”

I’m guessing they either already made a decision, or it is so crazy for them at this time of year that chasing down another rec letter is just more than they can stand to do.

@Singersdad Was your D’s professor’s recommendation part of her three required recommendations? I guess what I’m trying to ask is without her professor’s recommendation, would she have had the two teacher recs and one counselor rec? Or was the professor’s letter an optional rec? If her prof’s letter was one of her required recommendations, it would be strange that Wellesley would start reviewing her application even though it was incomplete. If her prof’s letter was simply an extra recommendation letter, then Wellesley could have reviewed your D’s app without his/her letter and it would have been sufficient.

Yes, @ambitious19 the missing rec was one of the ones I thought was required. I find it strange because the option to move her to RD still existed ?? That is why I’m a little surprised.

I just can’t imagine any other reason to waive a requirement unless a decision has been made. Which is why I posted, wondering if anyone has had a similar experience.

@Singersdad Hmm that’s unusual! There’s a thread on this forum about Wellesley deferring an application to the RD round because the OP’s recommender didn’t turn in her rec letter on time. I guess this means that Wellesley DOES review applications that are not yet complete (maybe missing quarter grades or one teacher rec). But it still doesn’t really explain why the other girl’s application was deferred. I don’t want to get your D’s hopes up, but this is a good sign. She sounds like an extremely qualified candidate!

@Singersdad‌

Congratulations on the EA admission to George Town, great school.

I may be wrong, but check Wellesley web site, if you are allowed to apply EE to Wellesley and EA to any other school? The only exception to this rule is if you are applying EA or ED to a state school and not to a private school like George Town.

If you are not allowed to apply EA to another school and EE to Wellesley explain this to W and change to RD.

pretty sure Wellesley has restrictions on early decision but not early evaluation.

@emotup‌
From what remember from the time my D applied, EE at Wellesley has restrictions. I may be wrong.

There is no restriction on applying EE. Of course, if you were accepted ED to another school, you would need to withdraw your Wellesley app.

I guess, I am wrong. :slight_smile:

It is going to be tough for her to decide which one to choose W or GT?

Two similar schools but two very different schools. If she wants to be among lots of people and likes college sports [basket ball, football] then GT. If she wants peace and quiet then W, I guess.

No doubt it will be a very tough decision for her if she gets the opportunity. She is very impressed with the academics at W. Clearly there are less distractions in general and i wouldn’t worry quite as much about her safety. I’m glad I don’t have to make such monumental decisions !!

@Singersdad‌
If your D gets admission [which is very likely] and if she decided to attend W, be prepared to be a second class citizen compared to your wife… :). I found it interesting that most of the parents I saw there were moms [women] and they always addressed my wife first… :slight_smile: I thought that was funny.

@tamtiger Thanks for the warning !

It’s really funny you’d mention that. I was judging debate last week at the local all girls prep school and between the search for a men’s bathroom and a lack of urinals in the ones that were available it was kind of spooky. I definitely felt out of place,

I already got the feeling from the information session I attended, and our lunch at Lulu (where i was one of very few men) that the ladies were in charge. So long as D gets a great education, it’ll work for me. .

@‌ Singersdad

Great education at Wellesley - there is no doubt about it. It is a tough, hard grind but they make you a better person at the end of the 4 years.

I read in one previous Wellesley thread, an outgoing student posted something similar to this- “studying at Wellesley is like being in a boot camp, you regret it when you are going through it, but after you are done you feel that you did the right thing and it was worth every minute you spent there”.

Regarding the Male Urinals… I think I know most of them by now… :blush: He He…
