@pegski Good luck to your son! Keep it real and honest -sometimes that is the way. A lot of schools said show us “you”, and it was the first thing listed on Missouri’s audition page.
@collegeboundSam yes, there are 2 Sam’s lol. I have to say your stories didn’t match up, and felt I slightly confused. I also realize now there is absolutely NO non-stop flights to Springfield lol, so I will stop asking that question.
@triixxie , I checked the airport (SGF), they do have some non stops,
(United): Chicago, Denver, and Houston, (American): Charlotte, Chicago, and Dallas/Ft. Worth,
(Delta): Atlanta,
(Allegiant): Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Orlando, Phoenix,
Tampa/St. Petersburg, Ft. Myers, Punta Gorda and Destin/Ft. Walton Beach.
(Ft. Myers and Destin/Ft. Walton Beach is seasonal.)
My D is a sophomore MT there; we’re from Chicago and she always flies United (nonstop) to Springfield. Last minute flights are expensive, but when I get them at least 6 weeks in advance (for Fall Break, Thanksgiving, ect,), I’ve always been able to get a round trip flight for $340ish. We figure that even paying that several times a year is still a good deal with the tuition price!
We fly American Airlines from Dallas non stop for about $300. Hopefully SWA will fly to Springfield soon. Agree tuition at MO State makes us very happy.
@4angels I just don’t want this to be a negative experience like you Montclair thing…I’m hoping they wouldn’t have asked him to come for a visit just to not offer him a spot. I’m a bit over the process at this point! haha
My D visited for scholarship interviews in Feb and then for a department tour in March - after unifieds. She not only feel in love with the program but also the school. Their public affairs mission really struck the right chord with her. And then there is the curriculum and the faculty. Just fantastic. Incredible Broadway experience and connections. And the vision for the department and the support the department gets from the university make it a highly desirable destination in my opinion. It became my D’s top school and we’ve decided that’s where she’s going.
The school is very close to downtown, which is small but nice. It’s an actual city, rather than a college town. Being in the South we have a lot of the small college town schools. A strong community theatre, really nice touring theatre and a very livable vibe.
But the big thing is the program. The summer Tent Theatre seems like a great opportunity - they were having auditions when we were there in Feb. I think if you visit you’ll fall in love. We visited - visited - 13 schools including CCM, Texas State, FSU, OK, OCU, Alabama, Webster, etc. and the general campus impression was easily top 3.
If anyone knows of a social media group please post. We have to start figuring out dorms, etc. now. But thank goodness the big decision is behind us.
BTW, she was in the “pool” originally so if you didn’t get an offer right away, there is still hope!
Great visit yesterday! The facilities are a little tired appearing, but the staff we met more than made up for it. My son will remain in “the pool” until some offers he has made get back to Bob with their decisions, but it is his #1 if given the opportunity. Met a nice young man named Liam who was also visiting if he belongs to any of you Beautiful compact campus that seemed to have a fun vibe. Friendly kids everywhere–beautiful weather and saw kids in hammocks and skateboarding, throwing footballs around ect… Showcase opportunities seem great, but competitive. It’s not necessarily a cut program, but they will put a student on probation if not seeing growth and then it is up to the student to improve or do the work. Hilly but beautiful drive from St. Louis for those flying in. Campus is easy to get to. I parked in the big lot by Craig hall without a sticker. The secretary said if I get a ticket to just throw it away! haha The students are the only ones held accountable for parking tickets.
@pegski such good news. The facilities definitely need a facelift, but I think they will have one soon. Tulsa is about an hour closer than St. Louis if you ever find good flights there.
@pegski My S gave up his slot today so here’s keeping fingers crossed that yours moves up!! S loved Bob and heir program but he felt that tingly feeling at Otterbein so Ohio it is for this Florida family
@gatorbridget Congrats!! And tell your boy thanks! haha It will feels so wonderful to be decided and DONE! MSU is mine’s #1 and big city Chicago #2…talk about polar opposite ends of the spectrum!! lol
@gatorbridget Congrats! Otterbein is fantastic. D made it to the waitlist there but no movement. @pegski Roosevelt? Wow- talk about different! Crossing fingers for yours to move off the list. My D can’t tour until 4/23, because they will be out for showcase next week. As soon as she visits, she should make her decision too!
@4angels, he actually liked Columbia better! Looked at both (Roosevelt and Columbia) but has a couple high school alum at Columbia who have talked it up and love it there. It was the first school he fell in love with before he saw an actual conservatory BFA program. They have one as well, but you don’t audition until 2nd semester or later–kind of a weird set up. So we shall see…still hoping for MSU!
