I know S is chatting with several WSU students & potential students, so I thought I’d start a new thread for us ‘adults’. lol
We are heading to WSU for Admitted Students day on 4/5. Anyone else going?
Alum mom here - is the admittted students day for BFAs or the school overall? My D spent a day going to classes in the CAC, which is where they spend the large majority of their time. It wasn’t anything official. D contacted Vickie and she arranged it. She also got us tickets for the show they were doing.
Once anyone commits, there is an unofficial WSU MT/Acting parents Facebook page. ?
For anyone going next week, make sure to see A Little Night Music. Vickie will take care of you. Just got back from seeing it. Beautifully done.
Have a great trip @lithpool - hope your S enjoys his experience at WSU. The end game is in sight.
Thank you! S is very excited for tomorrow. Yes, it a day for all admitted students, but there are several MT/Acting students that will be here tomorrow too, so Vicki set up a full MT day. Plus A little night music tomorrow eve, and I think we are going to see the freshman showcase Saturday eve.
Not sure about this year’s freshman showcase, but when I saw my son’s year I was so impressed with the amount of growth developed in such a short time. It was not polished by any means - the students produced it on their own with no faculty input - but the maturity of presence was night and day from the end of HS. Though others may not agree, I think the student-produced shows are one of WSU’s biggest strengths.
Hi @lithpool, how was the visit for you? We visited last week but were not there for the official accepted students day. I like the school very much for her but my daughter is torn.
We are weighing all things. My daughter is between Wright and another school. Can anyone speak to how the feeling is about the whole financial thing? Is anyone concerned about the longevity of this program in light of the recent faculty strike? Might there be much turnover if they can’t get this worked out? I feel it is a valid concern. The program has so many good things to offer but if its not there a few years from now, what then? and if budget cuts hurt the program? This is the hardest…and I thought the waiting was bad… lol!
@Mardeen has a current student & may be able to give you more details. I’m an alum parent & still on the parent FB page so keep up with what’s going on. The strike was difficult, but once an agreement was reached, it is good for multiple years going forward. Most of the teachers there now have been there for years, and are in it for the long haul, as is Joe Deer. The overall finances of the university don’t really impact the Fine Arts department, as they have a lot of community support with season sponsors and their yearly ArtsGala fundraiser that was just held this past weekend.
Does your D have a gut feeling one way or the other? Has she connected with current students at both schools? Decisions are so hard!!!
