I chose not to waive my right to see my recommendations in the future on the common application. But now I have been told by my counselor that colleges may be more skeptical of recommendations for which the rights are not waived. So now I feel that I have made the wrong decision. I am asked the same question on the school report (sent as a hard copy) and my counselor (who is in her first year) suggested waiving them on this form. What would happen if I said here that I wanted to waive my rights but on the online version I chose not to? Would it waive my rights on the teacher recommendations (submitted online)as well? And would I be better off waiving my rights here or staying consistent?

It’s not that big a deal – really.

Are you saying that I should be consistent (Honestly that’s what I’m thinking I should do)?

Consistent or not – still doesn’t matter much at all in the big picture.

“But now I have been told by my counselor that colleges may be more skeptical of recommendations for which the rights are not waived.”

Not one single college admissions officer has ever formally gone on record to say this. Until someone does, consider it just one more urban myth. Truly, this is not something to lose sleep over.
