MIT admissions.

Is everyone who gets into MIT (or caltech, stanford or even other ivies in general) really really amazing at something? Does everyone have unweighted 100 gpas? Have there ever been instances of just..."real" people getting into these top prestigious schools?

Even without taking affirmative action into account I'd say that the answer is yes.

You might be better asking in an MIT or CalTech or Stanford forum.

And take it from a real, live MIT admit, yes, real human people get in.

I do think that "real" people get into MIT :) There was a person in my school who got accepted to MIT but he wasn't really a genius or anything. He was smart but not a "genius". He was in several varsity sports teams and was a captain in one of them and he did several other activities in school. He didn't do any science/ math competitions though (at least that's what I have heard). And he didn't do dozens of aps ( I think he did like 4 aps...). He was the valedictorian though....

This question is asked frequently enough that I included it in an MIT admissions FAQ (here).
