As those are the top schools my DC is considering now it would be very helpful if alumni could share any information.
Uh… this is way too general. Like you could just look up the online career surveys for MIT and find that out for every single major the careers people pick after graduation?
Wasn’t your DD also accepted at Caltech? Anyway, both Caltech and MIT have a lot of on-line info about where students do internships, where they are employed after graduation. They include data e.g. Where they are 2 years post graduation, as many work for a few years before and if they return for more schooling.
Sorry, but I’ve never spent time on UCLA’s website.
Thank you @bookworm Yes she was. As much as we like Caltech’s location, school seems too theoretical for her major and unfortunately is at the bottom of her short list. So now we have MIT and UCLA on the top and the bottom of her short list respectively. It all might change after she attends admitted students days.
Caltech is theoretical in other engineering majors but probably not in CS. They have many project classes:

My son chose MIT over Caltech. He doubled major in math/CS, spent time in programming competitions, interships, community services. He was admitted to graduate school but preferred to go to work.
I think your DD should check out all 3. CS at both Caltech and MIT requires a lot of math. UCLA is far larger than the others. And probably has a whole different atmosphere than the Houses at C & M.
For sure, whether at C or M, your DD will have no,problem finding internships and such. Both have great food for study sessions and meetings. Conferences are paid for. Please check out the perks at UCLA.
Thank you @bookworm This is the plan. She will be attending CPW at MIT next week and pre frost weekend at Caltech the week after immediately followed by pre frost activities at HMC. We should have better understanding in two weeks. I hope.
Unfortunately UCLA engineering overnight is on the same weekend, but she is very familiar with UCLA campus.
Then you are in better shape than we were. Son only made it to CMU’s big weekend, as we were flying all over from FL, and I didn’t feel right taking more than a week off. At Caltech, we met with admissions, and they had him attend classes over 2 days and eat in dining hall. Our tour (just us 2) was led by a CS major, so that too was helpful. There was a garden/architectural tour going on, so I went with that group.
Son was roomed with an absent host at CMU, but he met 2 boys who had been at Caltech the weekend before. Also, our large tour was led by a business major. Then, the NS department head wasn’t prepared to talk to all the families who showed up at her office. In short, the admitted weekend was more a turn-off than otherwise.
Try to have fun your DD has great choices.
