I just started filling out the MIT app for EA. There are seven slots for awards and then checkboxes for “school, regional, state, national, and international” to specify what kind of award it is. Now, my problem is that I can’t decide what to pick for the seven slots. Here are all the awards I can think of that I have:
-National AP Scholar (it’s stupid to waste a slot on this because they can see that anyway, right?)
-State Award for Superior Achievement in Math
-53rd ranked mathematician in the state (not really that impressive lol…)
-Science Olympiad silver medal at states
-Science Olympiad bronze medal at states
-Science Olympiad 2nd place team at states
-Science Olympiad bronze medal at nationals (I consider this the best out of all my SO awards, so it’s on for sure)
-Science Olympiad top 10 (I won’t say what place on here) team at nationals
-FPS 2nd place team at states (freshman year)
-FPS 2nd place team at states (sophomore year)
-FPS 4th place team at states (junior year)
-FPS 8th place team at internationals (freshman year)
What awards do you think would be best to put in for MIT? I’m really stumped and need help figuring out what a MIT adcom would find most impressive.

I am also applying EA to MIT. For the app try combining some of your awards to fill one slot. For example, for
-Science Olympiad silver medal at states
-Science Olympiad bronze medal at states

you could put --Science Olympiad (Silver, Year Won) (Bronze, Year Won) and then check the states box.
Hopefully this helps...if not...then good luck.

But, the problem is that the character limit won't allow that. But, that cutting out the "states, nationals, internationals" idea is smart, I should have thought of that. However, Sadly I think I must make some cuts, but what do you think I should keep and what should I cut? I really need to know what is most impressive to MIT.

I'd say use anything that has the words national or international over state. Colleges like awards that pertain to a broader scale, it shows that you're not only good compared to others in your state, but you're good enough to compete among others in the entire country.

Thanks for the advice! Just one last question, I promise. Should I put the 2 math awards (53rd ranked and superior achievement) on there? My state is really big, but 53rd ranked doesn't seem too impressive nonetheless.
